what is the avarage compression on a ls vtec with b16 and with ls pistons????
im just wondering when i go to do a compression check to see what i should be looking for
with b16 pistons the compression should be around 11-4-1 to 11-7-1 and with ls pistons 9-4-1 to 9-7-1 just wondering because i didnt build it. just got the block on the head and fixed alot of ---- that was fucked up, the guy said it had all this ---- but i dont think it does, but just wonderin on what compression #s across the board i u experienced when u did a test, and is there any other way to find out what i have in it besides pulling the head off?thanks -blake |

if you have a boroscope you can look in thru the sprarkl plug tubes and see whats on top of the pistons.

either way it could be anywhere from 200+ all the way down to nothing, it depends on what shape the rings/valves etc. are in, you need a boroscope to look at the stamp on the top of the piston if you dont want to pull the head, any shop will have a boroscope, if its stamped pr3, you have b16 pistons, if its stamped pr4 you have b18a/b ls pistons....

Spend the 50 bucks and buy a headgasket. 2nd compression tests are just that. Motor could need a rebuild and have high compression pistons and throw 160's. Also larger cams bleed of compression
