welding a crank pully to the crank

ok, most of yall know i do towing for a living. i brought my first truck earlier this year, but i am lloking to get a second for cheap. i am looking at an 87 ud (nissan). its a flatbed truck which is what i need. the guy wants 4500 for it, i am trying to talk him down to 3000. the truck runs good, but i guess the screw came loose for the crank pully and it came loose while running. he said the end of the crank got mushroomed. i am still waiting on pictures. i know alot of this stuff work on balnce. how bad would you say it would be filing down that part of the crank and then welding on the pully. if worse comes to worse, if the truck is cheap enough, ill just replace the motor.

Hold some sandpaper up against it and crank the engine over until its sanded back down. You might need some jumper cables :6

yeah, the truck is up in maine, i am in boston, i doubt ill be able to drive it back, so ther goes an expensive tow.

but will the welding throw off the balance? not sure how that works. coild i get someting like a fulid damper, lol

No, don't even attempt to weld it to the crank.

the weld would probably break but worth a try :6

Getting the weld to penetrate a crank I think isnt going to be the strongest thing in the world at a couple thousand rpm's

pretty sure the weld would throw off the balance if it would hold at all. sorry to say but it would be better to just to replace the crank if you want it to be reliable :-[

even if the truck is shot, its worth 3 g's just for the bed and working hydrolics. is it a steel or aluminium deck? i know that the steel full size (19-21 ft) decks are worth 10gs in working order. its like getting a free truck with your bed.

ps

I do towing & recovery. big rig rollovers own me. i can snatch anything with a flatbed, and the gun is part of the uniform.

can you make a bigger woodruff key and grind the crank/pulley to fit the bigger key?
