water in my ecu, now its fucked
so like an -------, i left the top off my car again at night, assuming it wasnt going to rain because of the clear sky. Well, it did, and i also didnt realize that the ecu was open on the pass side floor. So i got halfway down the street and it shut off. Do you think anything else is beat besides the ecu?

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Gotta keep your ecu like you keep your car, CONVERTIBLE 8)
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
let it dry out and pray for the best
throw it under a light |
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
I've heard microwaves do wonders! :P

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Damn bro you have some luck, does it smell burnt?
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
haha a friend drove his rex threw a 2 foot puddle after a really really hard rain and water logged the motor killing it. it still runs but it must have damaged the rings or something cuz its never been the same after that, lots slower. but like a dumbass he opened the door and let two feet of water in the car. fried the ecuador with a quickness, not to mention popped like every under dash fuse he had. he just ordered a june racing (gay ebay ----) ecuador and replaced the fuses and called it a day.

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
haha i put ecuador instead of ecu^ lol my bad.

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
watercooled ecu ftw! Its all fixed now, luckily i had a buddy who had a spare. $100 mistake though, i wanna plug the old one in now that its all dry and see if it works
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Sometimes you can be lucky and get away with it. I have gotten water twice in my ostrich when I had it, and it would just kill the car. Just let it dry and try it.

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Once I grabbed a few free apple computers that sat outside for a month, and after they dried, they worked perfect.
Give it a try. Anything is possible. Good luck with the sol. |

What fucks up electronics is having electricity running through them when exposed to the water, which acts as a short. |

Board was covered at every joint with rust. I did a quick cleaning with a coarse toothbrush to clean it up a little. repped that ecu for years. Oh the days of when a pg7 ecu on a dohc zc was ------ badass. |
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
I ran a PR4 I found in a mud puddle at the yard for a while, it got the late-with-the-rent roomate's toothbrush action. Toothbrushes work great.

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
dry it out , and if it dont work then run your car on hopes and dreams i heard that ---- works pretty well
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Coarse toothbrush and some alcohol. Or the mircrowave.

I also got a pw0 ecu from jap land that was kinda in the same boat. Got it for nothing since the guy sure has hell wasnt sellin it for top dollar. About 45 minutes with an old toothbrush got alot of the rust off and all the dirt etc. vtec bam worked perfect. So rule to thumb kids if something is soaking wet and is like powered by wires and such dont use it till its dried out You to can have a rusted motherboard power your honda. Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
uhhh so i did use mine when it was wet... does that mean its busted? I guess ill just have to try it

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
----, i work for sprint, and i see water damaged phones like that all the time. its a 20% chance that it will work again. i take a solvent called "print kote solvent", and it will eat away at any corrosion on the board. take a dry toothbrush with the solvent and rub it on anything that looks bad. dont breathe it in or it can cause cancer. i can usually get them working, but there is a big chance that they are dead...especially if there is any electricity runnig through them (it speeds up the killing process)

Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
So i tried the old ecu today with no success. It looks like a large cap? is beat in front of the middle connector where the harness would plug in. Its exact location is D5, its a motorolla part so maybe i can get a new one and solder it in? Although it looks like the board is burnt where it solders in on one side. Should i try pulling one out of an old ecu and soldering it in to this one?
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
You can try, but I doubt there is enough board left to solder to. Jumper wires FTW!
There might be other ---- gone wrong, keep your eyes peeled. |
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
yea, its hard to say if there is still some of the pad that you solder to left underneath the burnt ecu board. I guess that means its shot. But i didnt see anything else burnt though.
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Just get another one. Too cheap to risk it.
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
i already got a new one, but i didnt pay my friend for it yet. So if i was able to salvage the old one, id save myself $100. But it looks to be too far gone :(
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
Can't hurt to try, and you'll learn along the way. Thats a win-win situation if you ask me! :D
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
yea, just try to solder in a resistor rom a junkecu if its the same. might help as long as the solder pads on the board aren't broken
|
Re: water in my ecu, now its fucked
good luck
