Default waste spark ignition on d16

Has anybody ever done this conversion on there single cam? I've seen coil over plug done before but I think that would be a lot more expensive and time consuming than the waste spark. I have a good handle on how the waste spark system works im just looking for some help on how to use this system on my honda. Thanks guys

i know exactly what ur talkin about aaron. i was kinda talkin to skinnye about the same kinda thing, except w/ the coil over plug ignition. it could deffinatley be done. how are you lookin at doin it? junkyard style, or w/ like an msd setup you could probably do it w/ the gm setup and somehow incorperate that crank sensor into it for your trigger, or find some other way to trigger it. but then you would still have to figure out how you would control the spark advance, which probably wouldn't be possible w/o some kind of standalone, because on the gm's, the advance control is controlled and varied by the pcm, and uses the knock sensor, then sends the advance signal to the ignition control module. i personally think that it would be more of a pain in the *** than it would be worth though, because for what it would take to fab up that kinda setup, you could get the same results for cheaper and i'm sure with MUCH less of a headache just upping the power on the stock style ignition system w/ like a 6a box, and bigger coil. the only thing that i'd really want to use a waste spark system for would be if you were gonna advance the timing a FUCKLOAD, and even then you would need a standalone program to modify the spark advance to where you want it, and to get it tuned. does that help ya out at all?

Thanks darksol, Ive found a little more on h-t about this and it seams people have done it using either the dizzy or a crank angle sensore on the obd1-2 cars as the signal for the coils. Although I have read you need two crank angle signals for the two coils.
I was thinking about doing a junkyard setup using my stock dizzy without coil or cap, just using the singnaling from it and the advance from turbo edit. I know it would be easy to just do an msd setup but ive done it before and everybody's done that. Im looking for something a little different

I'd run individual LS6 coils w/ short plugwires, or some equivalent CDI.

You should see Bruce "Grumpy" Plecan's writeup on his 6 coil DIS setup for his Buick GN... things that make you go hrmmm.

I dunno, Bruce was getting significant deviations in his target part throttle fuel values due to a more complete burn. 10% throttle cruise @ 65 mph, he was using something like 7% less fuel!

Does that sound pimpy? It's not the half of it.

Where he normally cruised at 65 kpa (640 mBar or -9 in/Hg) he now cruises at 95 kpa aka almost atmospheric. YES his turbo is almost spooled off of part throttle cruise! Keep in mind, Bruce had a wasted spark setup, and this was his upgrade.

Continue to waste your life, Joshrex, or perk your pointy ears when I express interest.
