Want to Turbo... Crx(siR)..

Hey guys whats up. im New to this site and have a few questons. My buddy has a crx with a b16swap. He wants to turbo it and forgive me for even writing this but with a SS AUTOCHROmE kit. Now i have read you could make a better turbo kit with a coffee can, duct tape and a fan. But are there any other "bolt on" turbo kits out there for a decent/low price that are not JUNK! and what about buying the ssac kit and replacing the turbo, manifold, and wastgate? would he just be paying for an overpriced intercooler? even worth it?

He just doesn't have the funds to buy a $3000 edelbrock kit or a $1500 turbo Any sites, names, suggestions would be great. Iv searched around alot for him on different sites trying to get some info but im not a honda guy and i dont know alot about the engines. Would he be better off pieceing together a turbo kit?

Hes running the b16a1 (siR)? i belive. intake,mani,exhaust...and only looking to run around 10psi. Something SAFE for a stock motor. Let me know if you have some honda knowledge or any ideas on what would be best.

and im guessing im gona get my balls busted for even WRITING ssautochrome so come on,lets hear it...

Re: Want to Turbo... Crx(siR)..

The website is titled home made turbo. You should not ask question about non homemade turbo kit. If he doesnt want to pay 3000$ for a turbo kit:

1- Do it yourself
2- Stay NA
3- Do it yourself

I say good luck because you will get raped by other members here if you talk about turbo kit SSautochrome or not.

buy bmcrace log for sale in for sale. add a t3 junkard turbo, buy an intercooler/bov from donald in sponsors, mild steel 2.5", weld it all up yourself, and spend $500. xenocron for chipped ecu

You owned your self. Thanks for the laugh. Ok I will help a little. SSOQ is cdm junk. Manis crack, waste gates some times get stuck, piping is to thin, t-bolts only work right one time, Bov all ok, oil lines suck/ leak, fmic is ok, turbos like to fall apart/ some people have good luck with them.
All in all it is just junk. Do your self a favor and sell it to another rice boy and make your own hmt kit. BTW you will needed something to tune with. Xenocron is your man for anything ecu related; really good/ nice guy with good pricing!!!

Re: Want to Turbo... Crx(siR)..

yeah i know...i figuredi'd get smething along thoes ines of an insult...

Thanks crxvtec91. Thats kinda what i was looking for but more along the lines of what set up he could use.
whats a good stock turbo to use? anyone running a 14b with good results? i know you can run a t25 but that seems a bit small... also does a dsm Mani. bolt up to a honda/ b16? sounds weird to me but i always see them for sale for honda turbo kits. it doesn't make sense to me that thy would fit.

as for tuning i think he said he was going to use a apexi Neo or Safc. woud it be better to chip/socket your ecu or just get a piggyback system?

Thanks to anyone for any help. ill keep serching but any info will help.

A T3 48/60 or 63/60 would be decent for that motor. Even a holset Hx/Hy 35 if you want to go balls to the wall. Check the classifieds here and other Honda sites to find a decent manifold. If you can weld visit the sponsors and buy some dirt cheap mandrels for the charge/down piping. Engine management will be your biggest obstacle in this case. A chipped p30/p28 ecu would be your best bet if someone local to you can do the tuning. Definitely do some searching before asking questions though. the link below will give you an idea of how alot of people do it.

You can hit up ebay for some good deals on quality turbos such as garrett, holset, IHI, precision, etc. For the manifold I would suggest something cast, as it'll hold the abuse much better than the shitty SSAC tube ones, and you can still get away with using the cheaper cast chinese knock-off's. I never had too many issues with the chinese wastegates, but it's still a 50/50 chance that it'll work fine. The ching chong blow off valves will leak at higher psi's, but for low boost they'll be ok for a while. As for FMIC's, the chinese cores are nothing more than glorified bar and plate cheap radiator cores with end tanks welded on. They do a shitty job of cooling, but it's still better than nothing.
