Vtec solenoid testing?
Well, after all of the ---- I have put up with on this car lately I thought I finally had it. I finished the mini-me, I fixed little problems here and there, and I got the timing fixed so the car actually ran worth a ----.
Now.....Vtec isn't engaging. I have it wired through a solenoid in my car like this: http://img41.imagevenue.com/loc178/th_e79_neg2pos.JPG And that solenoid clicks over just like it should. I just don't think the Vtec solenoid is clicking over on the head. Is there any way for me to test the solenoid? |

run a toggle swithch to it click it on get rough rough idle solenoid works

I've already got the solenoid pulled off the head. If I just run a wire from the battery to the grayish plug with one pin should that turn the vtec solenoid over?

You will also need to ground the solenoid, but yes that should kick it on.

ground which pin? I think we may have just found my real problem!!!! :)

Its a solenoid. Just use an Ohm meter!

if the solenoid pops when you touch the wire straight to a 12v source, then that means the solenoid is good, now the question is if the ecu is sending 12v to the solenoid when it's suppose to. are you running a chipped ecu? obd0 or obd1? hook a 12v led up to the ecu, put the positive wire on the vtec pin out, and the negative on a ground, then drive the car, if the led lights up when you should hit vtec, that means the ecu is functioning properly also. |

I know there isn't a ground pin on a vtec solenoid, just one wire for power to activate it. But I thought it was grounded through the body of the solenoid. How can you activate it with no ground? That's like connecting only the positive end of a battery to a light bulb and having it turn on. Am I missing something here?

Well, throwing 12V+ at it doesn't do anything to it so I'll assume it is bad.
And yes, I know for a fact that it isn't the ECU. I'm running a xenocron chipped PM6 w/ TurboEDIT 1-wire Vtec. My maps have been properly hex edited as per gimpyaccord/splittime's instructions on PGMFI to get 1-wire vtec to work. :) I still may test with the led though. :) |

It's bolted to the grounded engine.

did u pull the oil limiter out of the block or run a oul line to the solenoid if u dont have enough oil presure it wont crosover in to vtec

yes, the speedo is working. I already have taken the solenoid off the head and tested it. It is shot.

Actually my car went into vtec and the speedo don't work. Though once I got a CEL for the o2 sensor then it wouldn't kick over.
