Vtec engagement
Im always around B series motors. I have a D16Z6. When my vtec engages it's not noticed sounding wise...If I disconnect my Vtec I can tell a power change, but it sounds the same. Im runnin' ghetto intake, and ghetto exhaust, could that be why? I have 16x,xxx miles....could something be messed up or just worn-out internally?

Re:Vtec engagement
D-series vtec is not as loud or noticeable as B-series vtec. With a B-series it pretty much screams but d-series is really hard to hear over all the other sounds in the engine. But if you can feel a difference when you disconnect it, then it's working.

Re:Vtec engagement
The only time the vtec sounds good is when im haulin ass through a tunnel or a construction zone with cement slabs on both sides ::) I just wondered if there was something I could do to really make it noticable. ???

Re:Vtec engagement
Get a bigger diameter pipe for your intake, and just use a short ram not a cold air intake. That Might make the sound louder, but might not perform as good.

Re:Vtec engagement
boost it....and you'll know when it comes on ;). i can hear my vtec change over on my z6. not fucken screaming but you can hear it. and i can feel it pull. but with turbo. when i punch it from like 3k in second. once i hit 5800 i can feel it pull. that was at 11 psi. at 15. u cant even tell. maybe thats why my motor went. :P. nah but you can barely hear it. and there is a big power loss if it didnt have vtec

Re:Vtec engagement
when i had a SOHC VTEC i could hardly hear the VTEC, BUT when i got a DC header + exhaust, DAME that shyt made a big difference.
this was long time ago.... |
Re:Vtec engagement
Yeah that's pretty normal not to hear vtec on a sohc. I hear it sometimes, but like you it's when I am in a tunnel or something like that. I wish my vtec sounded cool like all you b-series guys. :(
I still don't want a stupid b-series though. ;) |
Re:Vtec engagement
If you do mods to add sound to your car that reduce performance, then you're a ------- ricer.

Re:Vtec engagement
Gotta admit, everyone likes the sound of Vtec kickin in. Ive never met anyone who doesnt...I might try that shorter intake.

Re:Vtec engagement
in the wifes 99 EX i pulled the intake tube off the air box and let it hang in the engine bay to see if i could hear vtec. it suprised me, at 5.5k it made lots of noise, but no noticable gain in power :-\

Re:Vtec engagement
Well if you unplug the sensor, the solenoid and drive it again, you should feel a loss in power, then when you plug it back in and drive, you should feel the gain. If not there's something wrong.

Re:Vtec engagement
yep thats what I did.

Re:Vtec engagement
The reason why you dont hear a sohc vtec engagement is because you are only useing one cam. So the sound that you do get is a very broad crossover sound. And not all B series have a loud vtec engagement. The B16 and the B18c5. the c1 has more of a broad vtec engagment (like the d) and also has two stage vtec.

Re:Vtec engagement
my b16a vtec is loud as ----, i have cold air intake, type-r intak manifold, and dc header, and 2 1/2 exhaust piping, and at 5000 rpm it screams to 8000k...I know yall hate n/a b16's but oh well.

Re:Vtec engagement
hey one way u can improve your vtec "sound" is maybe by upgrading the cams...it would open the valves more.
|
Re:Vtec engagement
or you could put a turbo on it then it will make all kinds of cool noises. and maybe be fast too.
