Unless volvo did something fucked up and crazy normaly closed relay type ----, you shouldnt have battery positive on both wires to the coil. Me thinks you have an igniter shorted battery +.
You need a service manual to outline how your supposed to diag the ignition correctly on that car. Volvo is notorious for shitty wiring, so I wouldnt rule it out. Find a service manual.

It looks like the coil has some.... thing that it works with. Again, I suck with ignitions. Considering that the coil comes as a set apparently would it be a good idea to just try getting that coil?
