Two Engines...One problem
We swapped an auto with a manual in my friends 96 accord ex. The motor is a stock f22 that we removed to replace the head gasket and tranny. Upon reinstalling the engine, the ecu throws a crank position sensor code, and runs like crap. Clips out upon acceleration, doesn't hit vtec, and is slow as ****.
We swapped a civic std motor from an 89 HB with a jdm b16a 1st generation, and it's doing the same thing. Slow as crap, CEL, no vtec, Code 9 (CPS). Both happened in the same week, did we really screw something up on both of these engines or is it just a huge cuincidence? Anyone have any insight?

well the most obvious answers are always overlooked...
so i would say check to see if the censor is pluged in. maybe the terminals are corroded on the plug connector. then if that doesnt work i would trace the wires going from the sensor to the ecu and make sure the wires are good and are going to the right pin....
as for the b16 swap thats probably in the wiring also... double, tripple check your wiring
just rmeember to re set your ecu after everytime to do something ...

Yah, both the sensors are plugged in, and the wires are good on both. We have double and triple checked both cars. We re-wired the whole harness for the B16, but the F22 is exactly the same. No wires were changed. Both motors ran fine before they were taken out. We're gonna try changing the distributor on the B16 cause that's where the CPS is.

eh, no. The crank position sensor wire that is hooked to the ecu runs into the distributor. The distributor got all wet from not having a hood on the donor car, so we think this may be the problem. as for the f22 we're not sure. the CPS is on the other side by the timing belt. Strange for a honda, but true.

to varify the sensor that is bad is a
code 9 cyp cylinder position sensor
if you are sure all of the wiring is bad i would check the sensors. on the b16 put a different dizzy on it and see what happens. if it still throw the code there is something wrong with the wiring.
and i would do the same on the accord put a sensor in that you know is good and see what happens...
thats one carzy fluke if the sensors are bad on both cars...
wiring is a bitch. i hope ya figure it out.

Got the B16 fixed. Ended up being the ECU ground wire. Damn Jacob can't figure out how to do ANYTHING that involves tools. I dunno why that made it throw a code 9 but it's not doing it now. As far as the F22 we're still workin on it. Thanks everyone for the help.
