Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
Okay okay, fess up.
How many dbl are you pushing? I'm pushing 150 and I change alternators like I change socks. |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
i had the same problem back in the day, spent a lil more and bought a better alternator(same amp) , and never had a problem....
well two years ago it started to over charge ...so i put a new regulator in ($25) and ;D truck b bangin like a crip O0 |

Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
no cd playuer even in the car straight hmt for real. but........ i bought the car from a ricer and it had poopers(poppers) on it and have since bought red doors taht i havnt painted yet lol. but anyways would htere be a wire somwhere from the poppers that could do that. remember it was straight ricer when i bought it the only thing it didnt have was neons thank god for that. also i would have to run a new hot wire to install a cd palyer hence the reason there isnt one. but could that be a problem.

not meaning to thread jack. The parasitic draw may be it. if he had ricer door poppers and whatnot, it may have been wired impoperly and you could have some bad grounding and whatnot. |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
so i need to check for grounds that arent bein used. i got four wires unser my hood that i have no idea where they go. i'll take a pic and post it up in a few.

Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
just upgrade all grounds in the vehicle to 8-4ga and that will help with dimming as far as the extra wires go look for any ricer switches and turn them on and start testing the wires
just cut or cap them and you should be fine |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
turn the car off and put a amp meter on ther ground between the batt and the cable end. red the amp's
if u get more then like 0.020amps then you have parasitic loss |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
I am having similar alternator problems the car currently only has a cd player, that I dont use, no amps no subs, no neons nothing extra. but my battery keeps dying. after the cars sits for a day without running.
I just installed 130 amp alternator, and I still have the problem. could it be the positive cable that needs to be replaced? I have all good grounds, I have grounds all over the car. I ahve a Apexi turbo timer that has a volt gauge and it reads 13.6 volts, and below with load its at 11.9 to 13 volts its getting so annoying. I even changed the complete engine harness. still same problem. I am so sick of it. |

if u get more then like 0.020amps then you have parasitic loss so i just went outside and chiekced and got some pics to verify that i did it rite. do i have to check it in amps? i checked it in ohms so oh well it read 1.5 ohms on the ground wire done like soAttachment 28115 also snyone know wat these wires are sorry the pics are big but that way you can see them really good. i tried to get to where you could see the original wire color to Attachment 28116 and this is wehre those wires areAttachment 28117 ok so my friends multi meter doesnt read amps how fukin gay. any other ideas i have a good alt. waitining to go on just dont want to and mess it up ya know |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
you have to remove the neg cable
the meter is the jumper between the batt and the batt cable(+on batt - on cable) meter has to be put on amp's, ohm will only measure the resistane, you want to see if there is a flow of electons |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
hmm well hot damn i dont have anythign that will read amps and i dont ahve the money to go buy somthing to take back later lol. anyone wanna overnite me one and i'll mail it back to ya i swear.
is there anything else i can use. |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
use a test light
if it lights up then you gat a drain |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
thank you very much. it was so obvious. now all i gotta do is drive my car to my inlaws shop and use his test light. thanks zenice
ok so the battery needs to be connected when i do this rite. i figure it does but it doesnt hurt to ask. lol |
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
disconect the the neg wire, use the test light to jump between the batt terminal and the battery cable
|
Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
using a test light is only going to tell u if u have power or ground......check ur IOD fuse under ur dash.........i got a 96 civic that had the same problem.....stupid 90 cent fuse was blown when my buddy hooked up my stereo so my car was running a few days before dying.that should have been the first thing i checked.....but no being mister mechanic i grab an alternator an change it an throw a new battery in.
always check ur fuses.......specialy on obd-2 cars.........it's a good thing i work for chyrsler and not honda i guess................ |

Re: two altnators down how many more will i kill
u can't find power between ur ground cable an batt ground. If you want you can hook up ur test light to positive terminal an ur light will light up if u have ground to ur cable.True about the body grounds........those will wreck havoc on ur charging system.Always check ur trany to body an motor to body grounds.
I rarely use test lights n e more.....i'm more of a power probe user....gotta love the ability to add power to actually test object ur messing with.... |
