Tranny Swap/rebuild Question

Ok, I'm trying to make chicken soup outta chicken ---- here, but I've got a 94 Si tranny with a busted housing, think car wreck and sheared bolt holes, and I've got a 92 Cx hatch. Are the two manual transmission casings the same? Will the Si internals fit into the casing of the Cx?

Re: Tranny Swap/rebuild Question

No the casings are not the same. Big bearing vs. small bearing.

internal can be swapped IF you know what your doing, mainshaft WILL have to be reshimmed.

It's been covered a little on D-series, I just posted last week what you'd generally have to change.

Re: Tranny Swap/rebuild Question

Bone, what is your name on D-series?

This 'hybrid' tranny will be going on a Z6, all this is on the cheap and easy. How hard would it be to take the Final Drive outta that Si tranny, put in the Cx tranny? Would it require the shimming? I don't have all the calipers and dials to do something like that, and I don't want to spend the money. I know 2-5 gear is different, but they aren't off in left field like with the Cx FD.

Also, since I'm gonna be opening this sucker up, and I plan on a turbo I'd love an obx lsd. What do you guys say about my situation? Is the cheap and easy fix for the 5-speed would be take the FD outta the Si, and take the Diff assembly outta the Cx. Then throw in the lsd with the 4.25 in the Cx tranny. Would this FD swap be possible? Would one lsd fit both ring gears and cases?

He's Transzex on D-series

Re: Tranny Swap/rebuild Question

OBX won't fit small bearing CX case.

$650 Quaife I have sitting here would work :)

FD swap is easy, no shimming needed, but the 1-2-3 ratios will still suck, 3-4 will rock if you highway racing from a 75mph roll.

Gotta do the math, read the helms, and take pics.

I see things in pics most overlook, like the ZC tranny thread on D-Series with ebay link, I called it a Y tranny and amazed everyone. If anyone took the time to PAY ATTENTION.....they'd seen the same thing.

So here is why I've been asking about this. In June I wrecked my 94 Si hatch (thank you lower ball joint for failing), and I've saved the whole car cause I know alot of others I could put the motor in. I bought a 92 Cx on the cheap last month cause of a bad clutch. Basically, all I want to do is have a gear set whos ratios don't totally blow, a turbo and an lsd. I want to make what I have work for cheap. I'll be doing all the labor, and consider myself compitent with tools and how stuff works (I've rebuilt several engines, but I'm not comfortable doing a full tranny rebuild).

The bad part about that quaffie is $. I know its a quality unit, but I'm only going to be adding a 14b to a stock Z6. I want to autocross some, and for 650 I could buy an obx lsd, another trans and still have some in my pocket. So what do you think is the best course of action to make my ---- work? Here are a few pictures.

Sheared bolt holes on the Si tranny = the big problem why I can't use this one anymore.

B8 of FURY!!! This motor will be commin out and be mounted for manifold fabrication. The Z6 will be goin in.

I think what I might do for now is throw the FD from the Si into the Cx case. Quick easy, cheap fix that will let me get my motor in and running, then hopefully feed it some boost. Then maybe later in the Spring I'll get me a tranny and lsd in there.
