TRANNY LEAKING
OK, i have a d-series s-20 hydro tranny,i have replaced the axel seals on the tranny and it still leaks tranny oil out on my header down pipe.its just the drivers side axel seal.i have new axels as well.i bought the axels for abs brakes but my car dosent have abs.i am just pissed cause it still leaks.any advise on what i can do?

Did you put the seal in wrong?
Can you take back your axles and get the right ones? Are you sure it's your DS seal and not something else? Have you added any new oil to the case? Maybe it's overfilled, because it should leak out the center of the seal, just around the edges if the seal wasn't seated correctly. I would drain and refill. Should be just under 2 quarts. Maybe you got the wrong seals? |

well i dont think the axels make a difference wether its abs or not going into the tranny.yes i am almost 99% sure i put the seal on correctly.

maybe its the rear main seal if its leaving down by the header

well i smell the honda mtf when it burns on the down pipe. you can smell the diff from oil and mtf burning

well i learned something new today,that seal sits flush with the end of the tranny and not pushed all the way to the back like how i did it :-[

JFWY............. The outer edge of the axle seal is flush with the tranny case. A old mainshaft outer race works perfect to seat the axle seals. |

ive tapped in axle seals just by being gentile with a hammer
