tranny gurus, what are the symptoms of a bent shifting fork?

I'm having tranny problems and in the end I will just end up replacing the hole tranny. But I'm curious what about what is wrong with it. The car sometimes get stuck in reverse. When I start the car in neutral the car sound find, but when I put the car in first gear and back to neutral the tranny makes a whining noise.

Thanks
Nick

then you don't have a bent shifter fork.

Bearing issue likely.

S20 or S40 tranny

Fluid level?

sometimes it likes to pop out of second and grind on the way when popping out.

5 Attachment(s)
CS case side bearing has walked out, misaligning the countershaft

it sticking out.......

tapped back in

staked into place with a center punch

When they bearin walks out, second gear is offset away from normal engagement, therefore your chasing it to engage, but the shift arm interlock guide bolt won't allow enough throw.

EVERY tranny I work on now gets the CS bearing staked in. 3-4 hits on a DD tranny, 5-6 on a race tranny. I've seen the CS bearing even when staked in 3-4 times work it's way out on a race tranny (mine!) but not far enough to cause issues.

My Kaaz race tranny with 50k miles on it.........

Yes, the guru I be.

Holy ----, that's nuts. Now don't the B series trannies have some sort of tab with a bolt going through it to prevent that? Or am i thinking of something else?

bone, how much am I looking at for you to rebuild a z6/y8 tranny with one of those obxs and all bearings that you feel should be replaced? Including the cost of the obx? If you still do tranny work.

That is Jamie's forte.

www.racegearbox.com

I'm just a guru, Jamie is GODLY!

You'd better have deep pockets though if asking for his work.

I was working with a place in Taylor MI, but they drop their Honda stuff to focus on NHRA Pro Stock trannys.
