Default timings off

sup guys... i got done replacing my timing belt and got the belt and ---- on... and tried to start it and it wouldnt start... so i turn the distributor all the way advanced and it starts.. but idles like crap... so im like WTF... i check timing and my intake cam is a tooth off... would that tooth make my timing that much off?? it will barely idle now.. and wont really idle w/ the distributor in anywhere else except all the way advanced... is that tooth off messing me up?
