Default timing light on a6

I just got my built a6 into my crx and I started it up and it idles and runs fine but when I put the timing light on it I couldnt find the marks on the crank pully. So I put the light under the car and I found the timing marks on the bottom of the crank pully. Has anyone had a problem similar to this?

sound like your connected to the wrong plug wire, like #4 wire.

You want the plug wire furthest from the distributor.

Im connected to the one closest to the timing belt. When I switched to the #4 cylinder the marks did show upright where I could see them by the sights, but when I went to move the distibutor its unable to advance enought to get the marks where they are suppose to be.

sounds like you crank pulley is upside down, to make sure its right you should ge thru the steps of replacing you t-belt but dont replace any parts.
i woudl be worried if mech timing is correct before worrying about ign timing.

today I took the timing belt off, valve cover off and #1 cylinders spark plug out. I rotated the cam untill "up" mark was at the top and all the valves on the #1 were closed. Than I stuck a long screwdriver into the #1 cylinders spark plug hole and turned the crank untill #1 was at TDC, the white mark on the crank pully also showed TDC. I put it all back together and started it up ran it untill it was warmed up than jumped the timing connector and hooked up my timing light and the marks are still under the crank pully. When I hook the timing light up to the #4 cylinder It shows my timing is at about 15 deg. Im stumped...

Curious if you have an adjustable light or a plain old ordinary timing light...?
