timing belt question
 

Ok so a few days ago I put a new timing belt on my d15 an I lined up the crank pulley marks an then put the cam pulley in the up position like it is in the manual. I started it up today an it ran like ----, so I shut it off an looked at the pulleys again an when I line up the crank pulley the (up) on the cam pulley is now at the bottom an I have no clue how it happened. has this happened to anyone else?

Is your tensioner properly loaded?It sounds like your belt jumped.

with #1 cylinder at TDC

with a D15 you are suppose to line up the paraller line on the cam gear (3 and 9 oclock mark) with the edge of the head.
line up crank pully TDC mark with the notch on the block cover

set it up with the tensioner loose, then turn it over a few times by hand counterclockwise and check it...then tighten it

I have not looked at it today but I was thinking the crank pulley just needs one more revolution an it would bring the cam pulley back to the up position then I would just have to set the belt one tooth ahead. does that sound about right to you guys

No it doesnt. Remove all the timing covers again and re-set the timing belt. With all the marks aligned properly you want all the slack on the rightside (tensionar side). Then loosen the tensionar so it picks up all the slack. Tighten it down, then spin it over 2 times by hand and make sure the marks are good to go.
