timing belt?
how do you tighten the timing belt? do you have to take out the plastic cover? how many bolts are holding it down?what are other ways to do it?

Re:timing belt?
bring the engine to TDC..
their is a plug in the timing cover, take that out.. theirs a 14mm bolt that holds the tensionar. crack it loose (use 6pt socket please) now you can either get a long screw drive and push down on the backside of the tensionar (with the top cover removed) and then tighten it up. Or some of the slack can be picked up if you hold the cams, and just slightly turn the crank pulley so all the tension goes to the frontside. (rotate ? clockwise) kinda confusing.. but its pretty easy Jeff |
Re:timing belt?
you shouldnt have to tighten it unless the tensioner broke, on a honda at least......they self tension usually.

Re:timing belt?
once the tensionar is tight, it doesnt self tighten dude..
if the belt is loose it means its time to replace it, but you can pick up some slack with adjusting the tensionar.. do it all the time.. Jeff |
