Default timing on a6/y8 mini-me

Im having some issues. My car is obd1 (92 hatch).. and I just put a d16a6 block with d16y8 head, and Im having some issues with the timing. I have to advance the distributer all the way just to get it to run right.

Heres my setup:
a6 block, y8 head
y8 timing belt
y8 cam gear
y7 distributer (repinned for obd1)
chipped ecu running crome (ie. I can alter my timing map)

anyway, Im wondering if I should be running the obd1 cam gear since its tdc is apparently 4deg difference than obd2? idunno. Thanks for your help.

Also, I have retarded my entire timing maps in crome by 4 degrees across the board, and that really seemed to help in the way it runs/pulls (ie. a 16deg cell is now 12deg)... Im assuming this is safer also?

Stay with the y8 cam gear or your timing will be wayyyyyy off.

Ok, well, ive looked for the last week at about 100 different threads, and no one seams clear as to what to do. So Ive been experimenting.

I swapped the y8 gear for an a6 one, and car ran like crap
I retarded my timing maps by 4degrees overall, and car runs much better (I might try retarding more.. Joseph is saying 9.75, (to make up for 2 revelotions) but Im not sure I should retard that much??)
I advanced my distributer all the way to make it run right (which confuses me because I have to retard my maps, but advance my distributer?? idunno)..

It seems to run pretty strong now,(after retarding my maps) and doesn't bog. but Im just trying to double-check my stuff, and make sure its all buttoned up.

I told you not to put the a6 one on :1. Timing owns you!!! Put it back how it was and get a timing light to help you.
