timing?

so i adjusted my valve lash and im getting constant c/r across the board .. but when i start it up it seems to run ok then bog down to 300 rpms to about were its going to kill should i advanced the timing or is it just because i have low comp pistons? ive been tweeking the timing for the last day and im getting annoyed

Re: timing?

Low compression motor (unless it's extremely low) should still maintain a normal idle. Advancing the timing at the distributor usually increases the idle rpm, retarding it decreases it. Have you tried adjusting the idle screw yet? Also what's your base fuel pressure set at? Cam timing right on? Also put a vacuum gauge on there and see what your manifold vacuum is.

Re: timing?

If your cam timing is dead on and you're sure the valves are adjusted correctly then just fiddle with the timing and fuel and idle and it should fix it up.
