Default TDC without the timing belt

Hey all

My buddy just picked up a d16z6 for a direct swap in his civic (high miles on the stock one!) and the damn timing belt was cut. Any way to make sure we have TDC without the help of the belt? I know the cam gear is keyed with the marks for TDC but what about the crank? any marks on that?

Thanks alot!

yep, this is assuming you have remove the crank bolt, and remove the crank pulley. And there a mark on the timing belt drive pulley. Just align that up to the arrow up to the pointer on the oil pump. You should be able to see it. IF not clean around that area.

Look for the sticky with all the honda manuals. Go download some of them and look into it.

Yeah I already printed that document out. Its been a big help. I guess i skipped over that section!!

So I could actually have BOTH of the keyways facing up and that would be TDC on both the cam and crank? If not i guess ill have to check out those markings on the side.

Thanks.

its really easy to set TDC on a Twin cam ZC cause they have these holes were all you have to do is insert a small allen wrench or screwdriver and your set. the block is marked with an arrow on the oil pump and the oil pumo gear has a mark that aligns to that. slide the belt over these two and leave the tensioner loose ( without having the spring on ) . after that tighten the 14mm tensioner bolt ( making sure their isnt alot of slack on the belt) Once this is done then put the spring on that little thingy that it goes to ( i dont know the name of it but you know what it is) and then loosen the 14mm tensioner bolt enough to make the spring retract and this will make the belt tighten even more. then just tighten the 14mm bolt again and torque it down. then slap on the cover and the crank pulley and torque that aswell..i think its like 112 lbs of torque.

your done!!!
