tapping noise

i just noticed an engine noise on my car today after i swapped out some injectors my homie let me borrow so that i could pass smog. im hearing a low tapping noise from the head. i KNOW its not rod knock... cuz i know that sound very well :( from a previous car/motor. its a totally different sounding tapping noise. anybody got any ideas what it is? also, it only makes the noise at idle(around 750rpms), and its alot softer sounding than rod knock. however, the motor never made that sound before... just wondering if my engine is going to crap out on me sometime soon.

Re:tapping noise

nah... actually, thats the noise i was listening for when i heard the "other" noise. i wanted to make sure the injectors were working right by listening for them to click(which they do). by the way, with 450's leaned out on an afc injectors click like they are on crack...lol.

Text book valve lash, its easy to adjust just download your cars manual and you need a feeler gauge. You should readjust this every 30k anyway.

Re:tapping noise

a valve adjustment is always my first thought, as that's the best noise to hear since it's easily fixed. I thought that's what I was hearing, but I knew I had recently adjusted them and they were quite, and sure enough... rod knock.

Re:tapping noise

hopefully its just valve adjustment. i have never adjusted my valves before, so that could very well be what it is.

does anybody know what the valve clearances are for a y8 head?

haynes manuals suck a fat ------- dick and are useless peices of ----. quote from haynes manual..."Because of the complex nature of the job and the special tools and equipment needed, servicing of the valves, valve seats, and the valve guides, commonly known as a valve job, should be done by a professional."

The reason the Haynes manual says that is because you're looking in the wrong section! ;D Look under the maintenence section. By the way, i usually use a .006 thous. feeler on all my hondas. The book says .007 or .008 for exhaust, but it really makes no difference. I'd go .006 anyway. BTW, if you've never done this before, i would suggest asking a friend to show you how, as you can really make some headaches for yourself if not done properly.
