taking a rounded head stud out
 

so I was trying to take off my head today. I got everything off but ONE ------- head stud.

I used a 12-point 14mm socket, I couldnt find a 6-point one. But it worked for the rest of the studs, except this one.

I tried grinding down a 13mm 6-point socket, but it didnt work b/c I would have grinded too much off and the socket would have been completely useless for something that was really torqued down like that.

so, you guys have any ideas? I'm not sure if this would work, but I guess its worth a try.

I've been looking for 1/2" drive ones, but I cant seem to find any.

first always use the right tool

2ndly you should of left it alone


and found the snap on tool man




again 12 points are worthless on almost all hondas use 6 points and wow things come off

Drill that bitch so the head breaks off then pull the cyl head over the bolt. Then take some channel locks and twist the bolt out, which should have a good 3-4" poking out to grab onto.

drill a head stud good luck. In all honesty I would take it to a machinst pay the 60+bucks to have it done right and throw away your 12 point heads

yea, I usually dont use 12 points.

I'm at my shop, which for some ------- stupid has mostly 12 point sockets, especially for the 1/2 drive ones.

The thing is, it worked for every other stud, just not this one. It didnt damage any of the other head studs at all.


what snap on tool are you talking about?


also, i cant take it to the machine shop cus the engine is still in the car. Hasnt been running for the past 2 months due to broken timing belt and fucked up valves.

snap on has tons of tools for your problem. Find a dealer tell him your problem and get your wallet ready

you have the right idea, either grind down a socket and smash it on the bolt with an extension with a hammer and throw the bolt as far as you possibly can, or get some of those craftsman stripped bolt removers, they really work great, they slide onto the stripped bolt and you put a ratchet on the other end and it will take most of any stripped bolts out

do not touch that head stud until you get a tool that will do the jod no grinding etc unless you want a major pain in the arse

I will do anything my wallet allows. Frankly, I'm a poor ass beaner. So it wont be much.
