swaping map sensors

dropped an a6 in my hf and i have just been told that i need an si map sensor soo my car doesn't ramdomly bogg down... need help...no clue how to do that, and making sure, map sensor is the box with all the vacuum lines sticking out? lol. and is it to hard of a swap for a rookie?

Re:swaping map sensors

why would you need to swap the map sensor for an hf->si swap? I've never heard of that.

Re:swaping map sensors

or are there any tricks to put in vacuum lines that would beable to use my hf map sensor...?

Honda16hb 03-26-2004 07:53 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

the map sensors should be the same. and there are no vacuum line tricks for anything. I once came across a kid who had just bought a prelude and he removed the vacuum plugs on the intake manifold giving him a nice vacuum leak and he swore that his car was alot faster after doing that, I didn't know if I should cry for the sake of all Hondas or kick his ass for being an idiot. I just went home.

Re:swaping map sensors

well it's definately the vacuums and there are extra vacuum likes just sitting around and no where to put them...and when my car starts dying i pull this one out...try to drive my car and then put it back in and it'll run fine untill i stop the car...and someone on hmt said swap my map sensor and this car place said they couldn't fix my car cuz the stuff is too different

Re:swaping map sensors

someone on hmt said to swap your map probably because yours is fucked up. look around for a vacuum diagram, google search on it, and make sure you have everything correctly hooked up. are you getting a map sensor code? the map sensor is the thing on the passenger side with 3 wires coming out of it, just so you know in case you have to replace it.

Re:swaping map sensors

but mine is an hf map sensor soo it has 5 or sumtin like that

Re:swaping map sensors

that's weird, I've never heard of that before.

Re:swaping map sensors

HF and Si MAP's have the same 3 pin plugs...as do all Honda's...i use a stock HF MAP in my car, with a turbo B18A1 @ 10psi...

Re:swaping map sensors

well could someone just tell me wut u have to do when u put a a6 block in an hf ...cuz all i did was drop it in. change the ecu and plug in the wiring harness...and it runs....but like crap, do u have to cut a wire on the ecu harness? thas wut one person said an i can't find n e thing on the forums about it...or on google searches

Re:swaping map sensors

i have put 3 different motors in my car and have never touched the wiring (88 HF)...sounds like you might have some tuning/maintance issues. you chage the cap/rotor, plugs, etc?

turbohf 03-27-2004 01:05 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

btw you have your old distributor?

punx04 03-28-2004 12:10 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

put a new cap on it. i haven't ajusted the valves yet...but thas about it..but would that make it bog randomly? it would really help if someone could post a picture of their a6 in an hf. and i could check where the vacuum lines go. thanz

Re:swaping map sensors

the only two you need hooked up are the Fuel pressure regulator (the thing on the end of the fuel rail) and the MAP sensor...---- the rest of it and cap it off, unless of course you live in Cali...

i will look for a pic of mine

punx04 03-28-2004 12:52 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

and the map sensor is the one by the throttle body? and how do u cap the other ones off? and i live in cali but my engine is older than my car soo i'm screwed anywayz...

Ravage70 03-28-2004 01:26 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

the one on the throttle body is the tps, map is near ur firewall

punx04 03-28-2004 01:42 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

okay soo i have 4 vacuum lines..and i need to plug two of them into the tps and the fpr.... right now i have the one vacuum line closest to the fender connected to the fpr. and the vacuum line in the middle connected to the tps. and the two vacuum lines closest to the firewall sitting there. is this right?

Re:swaping map sensors

the map sensor is in the box/bracket of junk on the firewall. if it has a cover, take it off and look around in there - if it's an HF, there should be two canister shaped devices (each with two wires), one boxier device with 3 wires and something my manual is calling a CVC valve - i've never looked at one, so don't ask me. :-\
the boxy 3 wire device is your map sensor (it should have a label on it - Sensor Assy. MAP) - run it's port to the smaller of the two vac ports on the top of your throttle body.
the cylindrical shaped devices are solonoid valves - one operates the evap. emissions canister, the other was for the EGR system which you no longer have (same goes for the CVC valve). you should be able to look at the vacuum diagram on your hood to figure out which is which.
the bottom port of the evap control solonoid goes to the vac port on the back of the intake manifold. the top port should be covered by a little cylinder shaped filter thing. the remaining side port of the solonoid goes to the top most port on the evap canister. the canister port directly under that should have a red mesh hose going to the large port on the throttle body. the remaining port on the evap canister should have a plain red hose going to a connection on the firewall (to the fuel tank).

Re:swaping map sensors

sooo now i thiiink i know which one goes to the tps but still deno which one goes on the fpr...and i dont have a diagram on my hood..

ps. that was the most confusing thing ever

punx04 03-28-2004 02:24 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

i see the sensor assy. i see the 2 vac's coming out of it but they both look the same size to me, cuz it says connect the smaller one to the throttle body.but they both look the same

punx04 03-28-2004 02:31 PM

Re:swaping map sensors

figured out which one was smaller, now i have 3 choices for the fpr.

Re:swaping map sensors

Hey go get a Chiltons manual or a hayens and look at the wiring a vac diagrams. They have pictures in them. Question. Does you car throw any codes? If it does, which ones? Also what exactly does your car do. On my car I had a bunch of plugs mixed up on the back off my block that was making me throw codes. If this is the case you can look at the wiring diagrams and determine which wires go where if you know what sensors are which. If you need help just ask.
