Supra has the same as a civic??
I was loosing my time on ebay and came across this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33623 Complete Piston & Rod combo!!! These are 74mm (stock D series bore) Toyota Supra Pistons and B16A rods. This combo will allow you to pump out over 18 lbs of boost on the stock block! These were never installed in my motor because I never had the time. I am also including 2 extra pistons, and the rings. 4 of the pistons are already mounted on the rods with the wristpins already installed. This is the cheapest, easiest way to get more safe boost out of your Civic. The only reason I'm selling it is because I am parting out my Civic Well, i wonder if supra pistons are better than oem but in another way if you blow one you could always take another one since its from a 6 cyl engine... |
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
I would look into it more.
Gotta love this informative pic: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...0/f46b6fe5.jpg |
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??

|
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??

Its a low budget D setup using B rods cause they're stronger |
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
I "heard" of the setup but never really knew what engine it was for. You learn something new everyday. What kind of CR does it put you at? Complete bolt in or any machine work need?

Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
The pistons are forged from a 1GGTE not available in the states.
Turbopanda can get them cuz he's in thailand. |
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
Curses I was just gonna ask about if the pistons being available here. :-\ Did anyone notice the shipping charges on the pistons/rods package from turbopanda? 95 bucks!!! Damn :-[ My Initial D dvd's never cost that much when there shipped from Hong Kong :P.

Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
Weight is an issue with shipping things overseas fast.. :P
|
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
btw d bores are 75 mm stock
|
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
have you guys forgotten somethin????????????????????FRANK IS GOING TO JAPAN....therefore he could probably get them for us low budget numbnuts...
so the B series rods with the Supra pistons..what do you have to do to the rods to make them fit? do you have to rebush them like when you do the LS rod deal? do you just slap the pistons on and thats it? this sounds too good to be true...but then again its pretty cool! |
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
You have to notch your block since the b16 rods are thicker :-\ But besides that it's just a swap and you can use b16 rod bearing or d16 and both work. No machine work on the rods like a LS rod swap. Just the hard part is getting the pistons.

Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
Not enough research going on here.
I was interested in using these a couple years back but I kept my notes; Your compression is gonna be very very low, like 7-8 all depending on what engine you are using. Find out the piston dish, ect and use a compression calculator to find out for your engine. There is some machine work involved, the top of the rod is machined, the bottom is left alone. The block does need to be notched! Turbopanda was using pistons from a toyota 1g-gte, which never made it near north america. |

Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
yeah thats been old known info for a while... you can run factory bore supra pistons in your Dseries for boost. Something else amazing about the 2jz is that the exhaust ports on the head are smaller than that of the SOHC Dseries!

I picked them up last year for cheap and figure I'll throw them in some time within the next year or so if I need to... If and when I put them in, my plan is to do some scat rods as well, and turn the boost up to 1bar daily, I think that would be fun... I'm not too worried about the 8.5:1 or whatever compression, I'll just have them take some meat off the block when they do the rest of the machine work, you don't need to take that much off to end up with 9:1, which is about where I would want to be... |
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
The rods do have to be re-bushed. Why do you have to notch the block for b16 rods but not ls rods?
|
Re: Supra has the same as a civic??
so do the d series rods work with the supra pistons? just not as strong right??
