Stupid clutch question...
I have a b18a1 that i'm in the middle of swapping into my 89 hatch that is going to be be boosted when it's complete. The kid that i bought the car off of lied to me on a few things, so i figured the hell with it, might as well crack the tranny apart from the motor and check to see if he was bullshittin me about the supposed clutch and flywheel that he put in it. Of course after pulling it apart i find a stock flywheel and what looks like an organic Exedy clutch and pressure plate. The clutch does look like brand new and i'd hate to have to fork out money that i really don't have right now if i can end up using it. My biggest question is will this clutch hold up to the extra tq. and hp. that i'll be throwing at it? Or will i just end up revving the piss out of it while it slips all over? I checked out the LSD Motorsports clutches, and the plate itself looks pretty much identical to their 300ft.lb. model. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this clutch and how badly it performed under boost.

Re: Stupid clutch question...
I would just spend the money and put a LSD clutch in there.Clutch is one area to not cheap out as well as you will not have to upgrade in the future when you go bigger turbo etc.

Re: Stupid clutch question...
It really depends on the pressure plate, he may have just installed a OE Exedy clutch kit, in that case it might not hold up to the abuse. B-series clutchs in stock form can take alot more torque/whp than D-series when boosted. It's really hard to say, but if your goal is under 300whp I'd say try it out first and see how it goes, clutch swaps are not that tough.

Re: Stupid clutch question...
Like Jeff said its all in the the pressure plate. Id try and find a used pressure plate, and use the stock disc if it in good shape.
