? on the Std EF's

Are the axles the same with the STD and the DX and SI's? Because on the HF's don't you need to get the larger brakes if you wanna do a engine/tranny swap or am I just smoking crack? I'm gonna be doing a tranny swap from a 4spd to a A6 tranny and don't wanna be in for a surprise come time to put the ---- together.

Well you were smart enough to ask first, so you wont be in for a suprise now. Yes the std 4 spd axles are different then 5 spd dx or si axles. So you need to get the dx or si hubs, or mate the axles

yup, same deal as an HF ;)

Re: ? on the Std EF's

you can use your stock HF axles with the SI trans. The outer part of the axles are the main difference,
the inner joints for EF's are all the same, the outers are small on the CRX HF and Civic STD & DX
the outers are big on CRX Si & DX and Civic Si

hope that helps

Re: ? on the Std EF's

yup if you keep the same hubs you can resue the 4 spd axles w/ the a6 trans

Re: ? on the Std EF's

Sweet so just use the old axles with the new tranny! I'm golden! No brake upgrade. Don't really need it anyways with the all motor DPFI b2 he'll be using. Damn my neck just hurts thinking about it. :P

I thought the Civic DX has the Si style hubs/axles ???

Re: ? on the Std EF's

the STD and DX are pretty much the same car mechanically
the main difference is the interior and the DX has a few more ponies

Re: ? on the Std EF's

oh and don't forget that dope 4spd tranny and that infamous manifold. 8) Oh and no shift consule I believe too. just a rubber boot around the shifter from what I can remember.

Re: ? on the Std EF's

My STD had a regular manifold on it :-[
and it had A/C too

i thought it was a DX but when i ran the VIN it said it was a standard

Re: ? on the Std EF's

Weird. My last HF mani I pulled at the pick'n'pull was off a std hatch. Those have vinyl seats too don't they?

Racintweek 05-20-2005 09:28 AM

Re: ? on the Std EF's

mine came with vinyl seats, no rear speakers, 4 on the floor :P , no pass mirror, no rear wiper, and no clock

Guy-Fast 05-20-2005 01:26 PM

Re: ? on the Std EF's

88-89 std had the shorty mani's. 90-91 came with the long style with the cat under the car

Re: ? on the Std EF's

Aaaah the good Ole STD's. I have one that came with all those options you mentioned and also the no cig lighter option :P

Guy-Fast 05-21-2005 12:37 PM

Re: ? on the Std EF's

yup my hatch is a std. plether rules and no cig lighter was odd. added one back in the day so i could run a g-tech ::)

Re: ? on the Std EF's

that's what I did too, I loved the place in the dash with no lighter, just the punch-out to add one.

STDs are the ----. I didn't think even had the options of A/C...

It would actually be a D15B1 all-motor, the D15B2 came in DXs, D15B1 in Stds. The D15B1 has a throttle body restrictor (WRC style ::) ) that can be removed if you pull the throttle body assembly, and the cam is much smaller. I couldn't believe the difference when I swapped from a B1 cam to an A6 cam, huge top end increase. The B2 cam is an improvement, but don't waste the time, get a A6 or delta regrind.

Sold my STD manifold for $120 shipped like 4 years ago. O0

Re: ? on the Std EF's

when hmt first started hf/std manifolds became gold. I bought tons from anyone and threw them up on ebay with a portmatch and some high temp paint. They use to sell for 100 or so everytime. Tunertoys use to do it too

Listed it on Ebay as a Honda Turbo Manifold. I said " This could be used to mount a turbo with a custom adapter plate, comes with 02 sensor". I couldn't get the 02 out, so I used it as a feature. That was well before I was on the site and new that it was being done. I just pulled it off to put my header on and thought, damn, kinda looks like a turbo mani, I got almost as much for it as I paid for the header.

Re: ? on the Std EF's

Damn, what's the b1? DPFI I assume. I just always thought that all non HF or SI's had B2's in them. What the hell is the b1 rated at? Is it the same engine as the HF? Sorry I'm losing my EF knowledge of not having one in quite awhile.

jung4g 05-26-2005 11:35 AM

Re: ? on the Std EF's

B1 is still 16v, in the civic stds only I believe. It's rated at like 70 or 72 flywheel horse, and yeah dpfi, still had a pm5 on it. Basically a detuned b2 that made them even cheaper to export. I guess there was some tax on hp or something dumb like that.

as far as I know, the B1 was fine for basic ----, I just tossed in an a6 cam, did the mpfi swap with i/h/e and she was fun for road race until I blew something up (never found out what (rod bearing?) cuz I just gave the block to some guys that wanted scrap metal- oops.

stillnoturbo 05-26-2005 11:55 AM

Re: ? on the Std EF's

Damn a detuned b2. :o Thats scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'll just toss the A6 tranny on his car and let him deal with the changing it over to MPFI.
