Stay D or go B?
I currently have a 5th gen hatch that I swapped a D15B vtec into but I have found a complete B18B for sale cheap enough that it is almost a stright swap money wise to go B(I have a buyer for my D-swap). I have a WRX TD04, DSM inj.'s and a couple of IC's and I was going to turbo the D. Now I can sell the D and go B and work on turboing the B. Make sense? Will the TD04 be too small for the B18? Is it worth it? This is my daily and I'm looking for the most reliable setup while still making good power. My D-swap is mint, has an LSD trans, and runs very nice. The B will be a peg legged trans but otherwise is in very nice shape(so I'm told). Dammit I'm confused.

go b either or its the best in the long run i think even though im still a killer d fan.

Re:Stay D or go B?
I'd jump on the 1.8 and I'm a diehard D series fan also. Those 1.8's make some nice torque. You can always slap a VTEC head on it.
You should also sell me your old D series tranny. Seriously...... __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

Re:Stay D or go B?
Well, the D15 is about as shitty as it gets. The VTEC head is nice, but it's still a 1.5 with undersized crank journals and pencil dick rods.
The B18 is just the opposite. Beefy rods and a larger displacement, along with a better flowing head and the capability to covert to an LS/VTEC. I love my D series motors, but they don't have the potential of a B. I've recently came to this realization. :-\ __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:Stay D or go B?
Actually the d15b jdm vtec motors rods are much thicker than the usdm 1.5 rods.

Re:Stay D or go B?
As hard as I've been trying to switch to B series to "test" them out, I still have plans for two D series motors just sitting here while the B series gets finished. Conclusion= B series costs alot of money (to do right) :-\

Re:Stay D or go B?
I boosted the ---- out of a D15B7 with an AFC and never blew a rod. I'm sure I was making over 200whp. I guess I was lucky. We'll see how lucky I am with the next one. 8)

Re:Stay D or go B?
get the b18 and toss a vtec head on it. My b16 makes funny noises and leaks coolant all the time and i still love it.

Re:Stay D or go B?
Go LS/VTEC, just make sure you dont skimp on the important things. The TD04 is too small for the B18B. Get at least the T3 .48/.60 for it.

Re:Stay D or go B?
mmm ls/vtec...thats me ---- the d series

Re:Stay D or go B?
I keep hearing bad stuff about the LS/vtec, in regards to rod/stroke ratio. The LS can't handle the revs needed to really take advantage of VTEC. I spent a ton of time tonight checking out K-series stuff, looks interesting, but I'm going to need a bit more cash. I'd like to do a K24 from a TSX, the motors here are pretty cheap(2200 can.) and I could do my own mounts, it's the wiring that scares me. I'm also considering picking up an LS motor and using the head on a GSR block. Better rod stroke, lighter valvetrain, and no oil line crap. Or I'll ------ boost the hell out of the D15B!!! I just wish I didn't live in Canada, it's cold and we have ---- all parts availible. I'm moving to Florida.

Re:Stay D or go B?
Cool, any comparison pics against a Z6, A6 or B7 rod? I always thought the D15B was just a B7 block with a Z6 head, whats the deal?

Re:Stay D or go B?

Re:Stay D or go B?
The way I see it is, if you have money to spend go B. If you are poor or responsible for a mortgage and car payments, and a baby on the way, like me, stay D. ;)

Re:Stay D or go B?
dave owns you..cheers for sextuplets...you poor ----
|
Re:Stay D or go B?
Thats not even funny. :P
|
Re:Stay D or go B?
So you know...LS motors are cheap as hell. I can get one installed for $500. Thats nothing for a B series.
Defintely go B over D. way more potential in B series. |
Re:Stay D or go B?
If your poor like me go D.
If you medium poor then get B, LS. If your not feeling poor at all then go B, VTEC. |
Re:Stay D or go B?
D-series for life! 8)

Re:Stay D or go B?
Well maybe SOHC for life. Those F-series motors look pretty cool, bisi sure knows what he is doing.
|
Re:Stay D or go B?
That k24 TSX motor has a electronic throttle control and would be a PITA. Just get a b and gimme the d! I love my d series engine and I'm stockpiling em in my garage and have 3 sohc's sitting in my garage right now with different plans for each one.

Re:Stay D or go B?
