spun bearing? or is it the rings?
how the hell do you know if youv'e spun a rod or main bearing without pulling the oil pan?
and what wiil it do to the motor i.e cause it not to start or what?
i know my rings are shot to hell cause if ya crank the motor air escapes the cylinders and you can hear it rushing out from the bottom, can that cause a motor to crank and fire but not start?

You'll know the beginning signs of a bearing problem by the loud knocking sound like there's a midget in your block pounding with a hammer :P And when it gets really bad rods like to pop through the block.
As far as cranking and trying to start but with what you described it sounds like you have some other type of major issue going on, probably piston related (i.e. severely broken ringlands). Do a compression check and a leak down, that'll tell you for sure.

rod knock+cold start=obvious fucked bearing/crank

needs new crank, new bearings, most likely machine work etc etc
only thing its good for is parts and top end head, manifold, sensors

spun rod bearing=block is reusable it. crank is gone
new crank has to be line honed to match the new block and bearings to match
if its a d series throw it in the trash and take parts off it

Re: spun bearing? or is it the rings?
has anyone reused a crank after a spun rod bearing with any success? not a good idea im sure but trying to see if the scaring isnt deep if its possible to be a cheap *** or anyway to clean it up.

honda cranks are never suppose to be re turned. Spun bearing crank goes in the trash can
