some ignition issues with 89 civic

I bought the civic a little while ago, it needed a new lock cylinder, previous owner ripped out the cylinder and broke the housing; i bought an entire steering column and installed it last night.

this is the weird part:

the ignition acts like its 1 position behind. at posistion 0 obviously nothing, position(acc) 1 is nothing also, position(run) 2 the radio comes on nothing else and position(start) 3 the clock and blower comes on but no starter.

im lost... anyone have an idea?

maybe this helps:

the car has no power to anything with no key, ex: power door locks, interior light.

the 60a fuse under the hood was blown, i replaced it and everything works normal, except the starter wont turn. i know the starter is good because i can arc it to run the car. the starer signal fuse is good also.

still lost a little.

put your car in gear, take the e-brake off. get behind your car and rock it foward and back. this might un-stuck the starter from the flywheel ring gear.

Sounds like a bad solenoid. if everything is working as it should and you have to arc the solenoid to start the car then that might be the problem. Remove the wire from the solenoid and insert a light tester or voltimeter and turn the key. if it lights up then it's the solenoid and if not then it's most likely in your column.

dummyboy, how does he have a solenoid problem when applying power directly to the solenoid operates the starter? :1

the car is auto, as of now. it might be the neutral safety switch though, i tried park and neutral- how would i check that?

i replaced the column so it couldnt be that unless both columns were bad.

i think im going to run a push button starter. kinda ricey but i need to drive it.
