SOHC ZC vtec ( ZC SOHC block with Z6 head ) Need some info.

So im thinking of putting together my spare block.

Its a SOHC ZC block and i wanted to plop on a Z6 head ( getting it from either -------- or online) with a Y8 mani. I just have a couple of questions so that i know what to get and do when it comes time.

1. obviously i will need to go OBD1 right? Or i could stay OBD0 and do the 1-wire vtec.
2. depending on what OBD system i use it will determine what type of Distro i run, correct?
3. if i should choose to go OBD1 do i just need a OBD0-OBD1 conersion harness and add vtec with the 4 wires needed?
4. distributors have nothing to do with how vtec is engaged, right? i mean the ECu controls vtec engagement and disengagement. meaning either OBD1 or OBD0 distributor will work.
5. dont forget i have to remove the oil jet.
6 What head bolts do i use? do i use the Z6 ones or the A6/ZC sohc ones?

I remember we gehtto rigged Stevemodes Y8 on all OBD0 to run it i just dont remember the specifics. For instance, I dont know how he activated Vtec, Did you run a VAFC and use that to engage and disnegage it?

any info will be appreciated! thanks again.

1. Run whatever OBD your dizzy is. You can run 1 wire VTEC off a PM6, check http://www.-------------/te.php?page=TEvtec for more info.

2. Yes

3. I think the 4 wires you're talking about are if you're converting from DPFI to MPFI and then from OBD0 to OBD1, but I'm not sure if that's what you're asking.

4. Correct, dizzy mounting may be an issue as OBD0 dizzy's don't bolt directly to Z6 heads.
5. Yup, remove that ---- y0
6. Use the studs based on the head you're gonna use. Double check that though, I saw a thread on it not too long ago.

in referrence to #4 i meant that if i needed to add the 4 wires for Vtec or does the conversion harness have them already???

Ok, I know why I was confused before. I'm 99% sure the 4 wires you're thinking are for VTEC are actually for the DPFI to MPFI conversion. Since you already have a ZC, I presume you already have the wiring in place for MPFI. VTEC activation is only one wire, but you also need the VTEC oil pressure sensor for it to work, so that's 2 wires that need to be connected to whatever harness you're using. If you buy a premade harness, it will have a plug spot for the 2 wires for VTEC, but you'll need to add them on.

Personally, if your care is wired for OBD0, I would just run the 1 wire VTEC off of a PM6, there's a link in the first reply for it, but that's me, and I'm too poor to buy a premade harness/new ECU.

depending on what engine management your using, you only need 1 wire going to the vtec solenoid, for obd1 or obd0 if you're running turbo edit or uber, or hell, even an afc for that matter. the 4 wires on most conversion harness' are for the obd1 4 wire o2 sensor as opposed to the obd0 1 wire. you'll need to run whatever obd distributor according to what ecu you plan to run (obd0 or obd1), the distributor is not 'vtec dependant', just 'obd dependant', so as long as the obd's on the computer and distributor match, it doesn't matter if it was from a vtec or non vtec engine, you may just have to modify the legs to fit the z6 head depending on which one you choose to use. as far as head studs, i'm not sure, but i 'believe' you match them with the head. i know a guy who just put together a fully built soch zc/z6 engine in an ef and converted to obd1 with a 57 trim t3/t4. he ran a 12.8 just last week on about 10 psi and minimal tuning, solid set up ;)

sounds like im gonna be on my way to some 13 second runs then huh...lol

well all this 1-wire vtec tlk has got me thinking i want to stay OBD0. seing as how i already did all the DPFI to MPFI i might as well stay OBD0. turbo edit is cool and i would hate to have to learn a whole new differnt Engine management system ::) well maybe learning would be a good thing..:P

ill keep you updated as the parts for this beast come in.

thanks for your replies guys...
