i have 2 questions i thought a sohc vtec head had the word vtec on it. the one i have does not but it has the vtec do-hicky on it?? other question; what do i need to do to this head before i install it, (cleaning part).

 

not all of the sohc vtec engines came with a valve cover that said vtec

Make sure all the gasket surfaces are clean, and make sure it's ok (no clogged oil passages, etc).

 

the 92-93 d16z6 valve cover just had a honda emblem on it no other writing.

the 94-95 d16z6 valve cover said vtec on it.

and the 96-2000 d16y8's and d16y7's had the same vavlecover that just said honda on it

does the head need to carbon free? clean the soot off? get it resurfaced??

 

yup, you want a nice clean surface when you install the head.. I use a whizzy wheel on heads normally.. if the head has been overheated I normally get them machined.

wizzy wheel? is that a wire brush wheel, or a whole other animal.

 

hmm. dont have any pics of one ...

its just basically a little attachment that goes on the end of a die grinder, little sanding disc. Just get it as clean as possible.
