sohc v.s. dohc
This is my debate right now.
Either mildly build my f22a (sohc, 8.1:1 c/r, 135hp, non-vtec) for boost or buy a jdm f22b (dohc, 9.1:1 c/r, 160hp, non-vtec)and boost that. Will the dohc make that much of a difference? Should I throw out the sohc and boost a stock dohc? Im lost out here guys any opinions or guidance would be great, thanks! -Anton |
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
dohc of course!
|
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
I would think that right off the bat the 25 extra hp wouldn't weigh out against the extra weight of the dohc, but you have to look at long term potential, and since I think the accord is a family car, I have no clue. Ha Ha.

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
f22a (sohc, 8.1:1 c/r, 135hp, non-vtec)
F22A1 = SOHC 8.8:1 c/r 125 hp non vtec F22A4 = SOHC 8.8:1 c/r 130 hp non vtec F22A6 = SOHC 8.8:1 c/r 135 hp non vtec not 8.1:1 c/r and i'm almost 100% positive that the jdm f22b is SOHC 160hp, i was going to buy one for 500 bucks.. oh and i'm 95% sure that ALL F22B's are VTEC SOHC |
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
thats funny that you think DOHC engine weight will acually make a noticable difference. an slightly bigger head and extra cam woo wooo

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
----, just the other day I went to the store and got the "KING SIZE" kit kat bar, and I noticed the difference in performance. Sorry to use your own mentality Random, but "it's a honda" ;D

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
get the DOHC if you want to build for serious power. there is more tuning ability/potential in the DOHC. btw...im almost positive that any F series motor is going to be SOHC...you might be thinking of the h23, which is a 160hp DOHC non-vtec...

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
there is also a dohc nonvtec version of the f22b. ive seen them with my own two eyez ;D
|
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
its not an F22 its a F20, i just researched and i didint find any DOHC F22's so ur burnt
|
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
wasnt there an accord type-r or something in japan with a dohc vtec motor?...thought that was f-series too, but i may be making this all up in my mind

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
first of all the engine exists... second of all thanks to everyone for squabiling over if the engine exists or not instead of answering my question.
The F22B is a dohc motor much like the h23... but no knock sensor and an open deck block and a smaller bore. The head is identical. Instead of arguing about the motor, humor me and pretend it exists and answer my question. Is that does that 25hp difference between the two motors grow exponentially when turbo'd? |
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
---- the F series, I say go with the 200hp H22 from the last gen ludes. Then build your turbo up.
there is an f DOHC engine, 2.2L(Accord JDM and EURO) and a 2L(S2000), the H series is better than the F for playing around. ;D |
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
f20b = DOHC 190 hp no dohc f22 or f 23

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
there is a f22 that's dohc...but to answer the original question i'd definitely stick with your stock motor and boost that....it can make plenty 'o' power.

http://www.hondaswap.com/gallery/ima...dfedbea622.jpg and here is the jdm f22b "DOHC" non vtec, bub. http://www.hondaswap.com/gallery/ima...dfee87ef5d.jpg and then theres still the u.s. f22b sohc vtec that makes 160. http://www.hondaswap.com/gallery/ima...e04b409c4e.jpg *cough, cough. peace, im outs yo! what ever it is just boost that beatch! |
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
haha thanks renr..
i think im gonna learn on this motor and then if i blow it up get a nicer one and build it up. |

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
How much power can the F-series handle ? My friend blew up 2 different F motors in his 95 Accord manual, sohc vtec without any nitrous, turbo, or S/C, and good scheluded maintance.
the first motor was the stock one, the it blew up and he got it rebuilt, then the rebuild blew up, then a different place swapped in a whole new motor and it developed a rod knock right before he took it to carmax... Now he has an exploror.. F22 #1= died F22 #2 rebuilt = died F22 # used motor swap = alomost died D15b2 with 75 shot and 155K miles = 9 bottles and NEVER died... I'd say Sohc over DOHC... DOHC isn't worth the extra money, and whrere in the hell would you find cams etc ? What if the extra rare ( apparently ) DOHC F motor bends some valves or something... get your checking account ready. Then again I'd take a D over a B anyday b/c of cost of parts replacement and avalibitly.. |
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
for 25 damn HP its not work the cost of the swap. Take the money you would have spent on the swap and do internals or better fuel management.
There's your answer ;) no more arguing about the damn motor. |

Re:sohc v.s. dohc
thats what i was thinking, but wont that 25hp difference grow exponentially with fi?
|
Re:sohc v.s. dohc
I would just build the f22... make it more gooder
