Sohc Block Assembly From Bare-Drop in Ready. Need help

I just want something to read basically to help me assemble this engine back together. Ive never assembled a motor and theres definetely some tricky things as for as order and thrust washers and seals and such. Ive got a complete bottom end rebuild kit on the way. My block is pretty much bare as of now other than the big coolant pipe at the back and the girdle

But what I really need help with, is how to assemble the engine and all its little nick nacks to get it ready to drop in. You know like water pump, setting the timing and all the un stuff, basically starting form scratch.... having it ready to drop in, get it to idle and then Ill install the turbo, or should I do both motor and turbo at once? I doubt Ill be able to get it to idle/run good on a basemap and I dont wanna bring it to chris running shitty and take up the day fixing stupid ----

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Ive looked all weekend and figured someone might have. Any pics of motors being assembled or ready to drop in would help

Hope someone can help

Thanks

You really should get a manual with a step by step engine build-up. ;)

I work at a production machine shop. We all just make individual parts, dont assemble engines. I throw down the Viper transmission spacer/retainer, another guy makes a US apache huge ass gear, 360 Modena little pieces. Aerospace parts, no assmebly

Ive got a Haynes but ---- does it ever suck

Get a helms manual, they show everthing and explain which way the wasers and such go.They also have all the torque specs too,it would be nice to have a good write up though ;) Just make sure to take your time and double check, I messed alot ---- up by rushing it.

stealthmode did a write up of assembling a bottom end not to long ago. flip through a few pages, and there is something in there. also i believe in the FAQ stickey in the FI section, there is a massive write up of a B series rebuild. its a huge thread (56K big big no no).

Ya I seen stealthmodes write up

Assembling the bearings and pistons/rods isnt what I need help with though, its all the little ---- like gaskets, seals and misc ----, along with setting the timing to begin with and just getting the sucker ready to drop right in

I think someone already said get a manual. thats the best way man. take your time, dont rush ----. use gasket sealer on everything, do all that little ----. i would use a manual if it were myself.

Try on autozone.com in their repair guides section. Might have some stuff to help you out.

online manuals suck. they are good for a quick reference, but spend the $15 and get yourself a hard copy. its just the way to do it.

Putting the oil/water pumps and ---- like that isn't going to be your problem. Installing rings, and dropping the pistons in the bore, installing the bearings correctly and ---- like that are going to be where you run into problems.

You need a manual and an extra set of hands that has done stuff like this before. Get those two things and you won't have to worry about if you screwed something up or not.

Re:Sohc Block Assembly From Bare-Drop in Ready. Need help

I know how to do bearings and rings (maybe not set ring gaps) because Ive rebuilt a chevy 350 before. But all this other ---- is what I dont wanna mess up, rear main seals, thrust washers and setting the timing when dropping the motor onto the head

BTW- I blew my motor today, absolutely knuckled the fucker on the way to work, smoke everywhere, huge knock from drivebelt side of block, thats what you get for driving with less than 4.5psi of oil pressure

Oh well, Im buying a co-workers 91 ranger with quite a bit of new maintanance sometime this week for $1000 canadian, will be nice to have a trcuk/beater anyways

keep bumpin cause you need helms plain and simple. If this is your first real build which it sounds like expect everything to go wrong its how it is. It took me a long time lots of blood and sweat to be able to do things right the first time
