Snapped Cambelt, help!
I just bought a CRX with a snapped cambelt and I was wondering whether to just slap another one on it or if i should get the head off and check it, BTW its an 89 with a DOHC ZC, I hear different stories about this some say to take the head off some say it will be ok

Re:Snapped Cambelt, help!
It may have bent some valves, but there is a good chance it might not have. It couldn't hurt to put a new belt on and try it. :-\

Re:Snapped Cambelt, help!
he bought it with a snapped belt.
i would just put a new belt on and try your luck since you can't do anymore damage if the valves are already bent.peace -mike |
Re:Snapped Cambelt, help!
the guy I bought it from said he was just pulling out of a junction and wasn't even doing 20mph but i think that may not be the truth, looks like i'll probly just have a quick look under the rocker cover to see if there is anything obvious and then throw the new belt on, i was just curious as the guy at the local garage has a book on cambelts and in it there is a little chart which says whether the engine is likely to sustain damage from a snapped belt and mine is highly likely ::)

Re:Snapped Cambelt, help!
well that is an interference engine, but you may have gotten lucky if the belt broke at a low rpm, like they said, throw a belt on it and hope for the best
