Slipping clutch?

Im curiouse of what it sounds like. And why do people say that there clutch was slipping while they were accelerating or on the dyno? The clutch only comes into play wile shifting so why would it slip on acceleration after shifting gears or while the car is in gear?.....someone enlighten me please :-\

My car started to make a wierd vibrating sound at about 6000rpm on up....is it my clutch slipping ???

Re:Slipping clutch?

it doesnt sound like anything, your motor revs up and you dont go anywhere pretty much. you can usually smell the clutch dust too. the clutch is constantly in use, not just when shifting, thats when its not in use. the clutch is what transfers the power from the motor to the trans

Re:Slipping clutch?

Yeah, so if the clutch is fucked, your motor will be spinning, but your tranny won't be spinning at the same rate. The power is transfered through the clutch.

EDIT: I guess I said the same ------- thing as Ghetto. :-[

when you exceed the maximum torque the clutch can hold when its engaged itll slip when its engaged. My accords clutch is soo bad right now you can punch it 4th or 5th and see the revs come up like 1500 rpm... somtimes 2500

Re:Slipping clutch?

that was a quick clutch. likethey said if the engine revs and does no work it could be clutch or tires. if you sit at a RPM for a long peroid of time ( IE your starting up and the car just sits there and your RPM's are at say 1000 and the car isnt moving) it will be your clutch. also burning clutch smells like burning brake fluid (atleast to me)

I could post a vid of him "trying" to do a burnout on that clutch. ;) It wasn't pretty. :-\
