Re:single cam into 1rst gen crx
Frank, I posted that stuff a while ago, because I had found a 1g for $200 and was wondering if i could've swapped my D into her.
From what I've looked into, its not worth it. I think that you have to eliminate one of the motor mounts, and it rattles like a bitch :-\ |
Re:single cam into 1rst gen crx
Hey, I'm the co-founder of rpr and we have done a 88-91 JDM SOHC ZC with a 92-95 S20 LSD trans into an 87 Civic hatch. It is a full custom install, it took us 5 weeks and the mounts were fairly easy, the hardest part was the hydro-to-cable clutch setup, here's some pics:
The trans. mount http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aap.sized.jpg The ghetto rear mount http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../abc.sized.jpg The hydro-to -cable conversion http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../acn.sized.jpg Del Sol dual core 1/2 rad http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../acm.sized.jpg Front mount before we cut and re-welded to fit into the P/S steering mount http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aaj.sized.jpg 4-point cage we built http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../abs.sized.jpg Front mount after it was cut and welded http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aci.sized.jpg ECU mount for easy access http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../acr.sized.jpg Motor as it sits now with custom camber/caster plates and STB http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aaa.sized.jpg Car as it is now, my buddy who is the other c0-founder of rpr raced it and won his class championship in his first year of Solo 1. Thecar is incredibly fast with a stock motor, this winter will bring a cam change along with a DIY ITB setup and we will finish the front cage. http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aaa.sized.jpg how's that for a homemade setup! |
Re:single cam into 1rst gen crx **now w/ pics**
:o, wow, finaly some real feed back!!!.
j/k, but thats beautiful, but seems like alot of work, i think id rather just save up and pay the guy to paint my car instead ::) nice setup, i need to see a vtec head and a snail bolted to it real soon! ;D |
Re:single cam into 1rst gen crx
It was a ton of work, I swear I'll never do it again, BUT the finished product is INCREDIBLE!!!

Re:single cam into 1rst gen crx
Me and a buddy asked this same ? on RPR and our answer was "Its not worth it". We had plans on building a Grassroots challenger. We had a 1st gen body and lots of d-series laying around in case of mistakes. By the looks of the pics it doesnt look to difficult, but with out jobs welding and fabbing is a must. We were gonna try to boost and spray. :)
