Default Sick of the B7 but some q's before the swap

Alright, as of now I have this D15b7 boosting 12 psi with a teo4h, sure it was fun at first but 3 months later its boring. I'm putting the car away for the winter so I have some time and $ for a swap. I have a few questions on the various D16's, I'm shooting for 350 whp.

From what i've gathered (correct me if i'm wrong please)

D16Z6-higher flowing head and a more agressive cam

D16Y8-same block as Z6 but the head doesnt flow as well, but the IM is better than the Z6, Is this right?

Both have the same bore and stroke?

Oh yeah, may I ask why you say get the Y7 block with the Z6 pump? whats the advantage of that over just getting the whole Z6?

I really want to get rolling but am having a hard time choosing a motor, I have sorced both motors, I can get them running or not running, so I was thinking about getting a Y8, using a Z6 head with the Y8 IM, bottom end will be built of corse.

Next question I have I can find very little about, the transmitions, what are the differences between the tranny's on the two? the tranny off my B7 will bolt up and I think I like the long gears but are the 1.6's tranny's stronger?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am confused on all this.

You're splitting hairs where no real differences exist.

Y8 head likes a lot less timing than Z6, when boosted, which haqs nothing to do with one being better than the other it's just pushing buttons on a laptop.

Y8 bottom end is a pile of ----, as long as Y8 oil pump is hooked to it. There's your difference.

and i heard z6 IM are the best flowing for stock sohc IM, at first i was under the impression that the y8 was the best flowing but i since learned otherwise

Either work great, really. Splitting hairs again.

Instead of spending all that money on a new block and head, why not just get one of the intake manifolds, build your 1.5, and throw a fat cam and 1mm OS valves in the head with a nice port/polish/valve job? After that, crank up the boost, add more fuel and you'll be making power just fine.

Uh, no he won't? D15 pencil rods are close to maxxed out, bro, time to hop the D16 wagon. And port+polish work on a turbo head is pointless.

Get a y7 and put a z6 pump cause pretty much all y series oil pumps are the death of them. That way you get the 1.6 block out of it and then you can keep your p06 ecu and don't have to mess around with vtakkk ----. Just swap in the z6 intake manifold and you wont have to to change any of the wiring. Then for the dist issue just take all the internals out of your b7 dist and put them into the y7 dist. It'll just all bolt right in and takes like a whole 5 minutes if that. Plus if you swap out oil pumps you can toss your tapped oilpan from your b7 onto the y7. Being that your local I can help you out with your swap if you want.

Do you have any idea of how much it costs to build the d15? I could have a D16 built for the price of the rods alone.

And stillnoturbo, thanks for the info on the dizzy shiz-nit, I didnt know that.

I've had the motor in my integra out, and put it back in, with no problems but I've never attemped an all out swap, Thanks for all the info and if you can add anything else please do.

if you really want vtec then just build a z6. if you dont have to have it then build an a6 and the swap into your car will be a lot easier. also, get the ex transmission from a 96-00 civic. they have the same gear ratios as the ex's from before but they have steel shift forks and not aluminum. i have broken a few of the older ones, but i have the newer one now and it has been great. i think they call it the s40, but im not 100% on that. if you want i can look at mine tomorrow and let you know

Thanks for the tranny info, what needs to be done other than converting my ecu to vtec and running a few wires? If thats all there is to swapping in a vtec motor then i'm not afraid. If vtec is no real avantage, i'll just do the Y7.
