sbc 305 questions
So I picked up a 91 suzuki samurai with about a 6 in lift and a chevy 305ho swapped into it. I have had some de-nigging to do, and I'm new to the carb world here. There is a bunch of vacuum lines and sources that are not hooked up, but it turns on and runs fine now after fixing the timing-- distributor was loose when I got it
It does backfire through the carb a little when you try to go wot -- could this just need the timing advanced a little? It has the weird high energy ignition or whatever since it came out of an 89 caprice i think, and it has a hookup for a vacuum line, vacuum advance right? Well a friend told me that the guy who built his engine and who races w sbc's all the time told him not to even hook it up b/c it makes it never works and makes it run like crap. any truth to that?
I could drive it as soon as I take the lift block off the rear, but I need to get different wheels because these have no backspacing (offset?) and the tires come way too close to the leaf springs in the rear, and hit the front suspension if you turn the wheel too far

vac advance = why do you want to retard timing on a carb engine? plug it in, and the backfiring, i could do it by ear if you called me with it running. or, just retard the timing. give me a call, i can diagnose most of that ----
