Default running a Z6 fuel rail on a Y8 manifold and other ?'s

I just picked up a y8 intake manifold.

-The valve assembly on the back of the manifold wont mount correctly because the harness plug runs right into a big tab. I should just be able to grind that tab off right?

-i would like to use a z6 fuel rail so i dont have to screw with the fuel lines. If i were to weld in a piece of aluminum where the cut out is...and drill a hole on the other side...the z6 fuel rail will work fine right? it will just be a pain getting the injectors to sit right. (big bolts and lots of washers?)

-i know there is another sensor found on the back of the z6 manifold, that is mounted on the intake pipe on the y8....you just drill 3 holes, tap the 2, and mount it on the back of the y8, or should i try to mount it on the charge pipe?

thanks again.
Zach

just pick up a y8 rail for ease of installation. as for the sensor in the back of the z6 i think you mean the intake air temp sensor, just reroute your wires and you can plug it straight into the stock y8 sensor i believe, if not go snag a plug from a y8 harness and wire it into your harness

well, thats not the problem....there is no where to put the IAT sensor on the y8 manifold. on the d16y8 engines, it is mounted on the intake pipe (before the throttle body). So do i drill and tap the manifold...or just drill into the charge pipe?

i did the y8 swap on my z6 a few months back. Definately not worth all the hassle. I noticed next to no improvement from it. However, i can definately help you out. Quite a few things are different: you already found out the IAT sensor has to go in the charge pipe, the Evap purge solonoid that used to be mounted on the back of the z6 has no home. I drilled a hole through the tab in the back of the y8 and mounted it to that. For the vacuum source, i T'ed of the FPR line.

You'll run into a problem with the coolant lines as well. The water neck on the manifold only has 2 outputs i think. The z6 needs an additional one for the FTTV or whatever gay *** sensor that is on the bottom of the throttle body. Again, i just t'ed of the smaller coolant hose, just make sure you keep your coolant flowing in one direction.

As far as your fuel rail, I didnt need to swap the fuel line. It mounted right up to my fuel filter. Just use the y8 one and make an extension for the fpr return. (it sits on the opposite side on a y Just because the angle on that banjo fitting is different from your stock one doesnt make it unusable, the rubber hose will twist and make it fit. Hope this helps-- let me know if you saw any improvement from the "upgrade"

the y8 manifold isnt really an upgrade in my opinion from the z6, the runners are short and the cross section is small.

ummm, shorter runners are generally better. And the cross sectional area is at least twice that of a z6

thats not to say that i saw an improvement though

well, runner lenght is a preferance thing really, depends on where you want the most power, if shooting for low end tq yes short runners are good, but for a high revving small displacent motor that makes most of its power way up top longer runners benefit. as for the cross section, yes you are right, my thinking cap wasnt straight at the moment.

seems like its still off. Short runners are for high rpm power and long ones are for low end torque. Go to sleep buddy, its 2 a.m.
