Default Running Vtec wiring

Ok so here what I had:

Civic CX with a d16z6 with a d16z6 engine harness but a CX dash harness(the part the connects near the battery and goes to the ECU). I didn't want to just run wires through the engine and make a mess, I wanted stuff up and up of the way. So heres how I did it:

First I took the pins out of the engine harness side and the plugs out of the dash side. First get the pins out of the engine harness side if you have an EX/Si harness like me. Next I took a drill and drilled carefully through the plug to open it up. Next I took the wire I was using and ran it through both of the plugs. You'll need to do two pins one for the spool solenoid and one for the oil pressure switch:

In case you didn't know the spool solenoid is green/yellow and the oil pressure switch is blue/black

Next solder the wire from the engine harness to the wire you ran through the plug. Don't forget if you're using shrink wrap to put it on first. I think you know why I reminded you guys :1

Solder away!

Shrink wrap always make electrical work look nice and clean.

Now you have two wires run out the back of the connector: just feed them through the passenger side firewall hole:

Then your left with this:

Still looks mess right? Well pull the wires to a nice length then get some of the plastic wire guard ---- or whatever it is and place it over the two wires:

There you have it! Go in the car and grab the two wire and wire them into the harness into the proper pins and you should have working Vtec.

Looks better than just running a wire from the solenoid through the wall. I still need to hook up my oil pressure switch because the douches who owned the car before me ran a wire through the firewall to the spool solenoid directly, and they cut the wires on the engine harness. The plug is missing too for the pressure switch, so now I need one. hint hint

I've allways been curious if you could by the pins on the harness and put them on wires to make super clean connections. I need to ask if they sell those next time I talk to honda.

it's kinda hard to picture what your talking about, but I you think about and have a spare harness you can use some wire/connector to depin instead of cutting the harness. I depin everything, my last resort is cutting the harness, if it's not possible. but if they sell the pins at honda it opens up limitless possibilities.

I don't really want to just do a ghetto wire job, I'd rather use the two wires in the engine harness back to the connector near the battery.

Now the question. I'd like to run the two wires out of the back of the dash harness connector in the engine bay and through the firewall to the ECU, that way I don't have cut wires in the engine harness and extra wires run from the spool solenoid. But the CX dash harness connector doesn't have any pins in it for those two. Anyone know of a way I could insert some pins in the connector and run the wire out of there? Or do you think it's just not worth the effort?
its very worth the effort, it looks much cleaner and when you pull the motor you dont have to cut yadda yadda.. just hit a junk yard and pull the pins out using a needle (unlock the lock clip and pull the wire) so are you running a vtec engine now or are you just trying to use it for something else ?

Yeah I'm running the Vtak wiring. The wiring job for it before was horrid

Well I asked my dad and he came up with a good idea.

Take the pins out of the engine harness connector. The take a drill and run it through the hole on the connector to hollow it out. then run the wire through the connector and out to the ECU. It's still using your own wires for Vtec but it utilized the ones in the engine harness if you use an ex/si harness like I have.

I'll post pics and a quick write up and change the name on the thread.

Nice work on the wiring.

I would me sure to seal up that hole in the engine wall, or you'll hear the motor, and that gets annoying fast. I would just make a little cut in the old plug, and then stick it in, and fill the rest of the hole in with some filler goop.

Yeah at first I was thinking about how it insert pins into the connector so I could just snap it together, but this seemed easier, plus I don't have any worries about the connection being ---- as it's soldered together.

Did you just take some pics under my hood??....I did the EXACT thing a while back and the car is red and just as spotlessly clean. Does work well though.
