rt4wd tranny or si 5spd

???
I have an awd 1.6 sohc auto that dynos @90 hp w/o mods on 2wd.
I want to add a y8 head and an rhb5 turbo later. Should I change my tranny and dump
my awd for an 88-91 si 5spd, or run what I got till it pukes. I've seen jdm wagons with ZCs & auto awd trannys w/o probs. What do you think ? BTW mine runs good , I just dont think it will hold up to mods.

The swap from a anto to a manual sucks. reasearch before you try. i would sell it and get somethign you want then.

:o
To my knowledge turbowagonman still has his wagon, he's in the same civic wagon group as I am on yahoo. I know he sold another wagon not that long ago but he still has the turbo wagon. I also sent him some parts recently.
I asked him and a few other boards how good the auto tranny is and they didn't know either. Turbowagonman has the 6 speed manual awd setup. He says it works fine. Mine is fine too but I really want swap the head and turbo soon, I have everything I need for both upgrades and I am @ zero hour. I am doin it next month.
The jdm wagons had doch zcs on them in auto and manual forms. I also spoke to a guy in seattle who had an auto zc with no probs.
I have never run across anyone doin boost on the auto awd. I am not being naive, it will pop if I push it but I like the wagon and I can switch it from 2wd to 4wd when needed.
I only want low boost 4-6 psi until I decide on the best trans setup. I think a small rhb5 can do it without fryin the trans. Zcs have about 120ft/lbs or so( as I was told) and right now I have 88ft/lbs from the dyno.
I was just thinkin that an si 5spd tranny or hybrid with zc gears ( ala Mista Bone) & a quaife is better, dump the driveshaft and rear diff and go stick . This may be the best way to go if I end up with the 'boost' disease. :o

the 4wd trans is very tolerable to everyday driving but for racing purposes.....i dont remember any good remarks on it. even on the crv b20 trans...the granny gear is waaaaay to weak and long to even be used for high power. BUT i've seen a crx w/4wd crv setup on b18c1 w/8 psi on crv 4wd trans and it held. the hybrid zc 3,4,5th setup your talking about is very nice for drag but i dont think it'll give you enough time to fully boost anything bigger then the rhb5 turbo. but thats if you go with bigger. but i believe in that trans with aftermarket gran and ratios. but for that rediculous amount of money...you might as well do the hybrid trans swap. but in that swap...bone helped me to figure that the zc 2nd.. 1.944 isnt worth machining to an l3 or s20a/b trans. that extra .044 isnt worth the money. and you'll need to clearance the 4th gear to fit over the synchro hub. good luck

Re:rt4wd tranny or si 5spd

I think i'm gonna run the 4spd slushbox until the very
end , in the meantime I'll get a 5spd and find out how I can do a hybrid build with a quaife in it. I'm 98% sure the old axles I have should plug into the 5 spd.
I pm'd Mista Bone to see if he could help me with a
good 5 spd. I wanted to ask him if there is a better
shifter fork setup I could use in the d series tranny.
I heard the forks from 88-95 are a cast aluminum
and some 96 and up have forged. I want to confirm this and determine if they are swap friendly.
If anyone else knows let me know.
thx

wow...never heard of that...forged in SOME 96+...let me know when you get a response from bone. i want to see if its true or not.........there are aftermarket ones for the s20's though. but on swapability.....humm.....let me know.
