Rod Numbers are fucked up.
 

I got around to taking the rods out of my B18 LS block so I can swap them in to my D16, I didnt care too much about where I put what because like the D16 I thought the rods were numbered in order, half the number on the rod and the other half on the cap, numbered Cyl 1-4, at least thats how it is on my D16 rods. so while taking them off i mixed everything up thinking nothing of it.

Well I took a close look at the rods today and HOLLY ----, there is 1 rod that has the number 2 and the other three have the number 3, 1 and 4 is missing, what the ---- is going on and how will I know what rod goes where now on my D series, or does it even matter as long as i'm within tolerances?

I got all the caps in their correct places on the rods going by wear/burn marks and scratch patterns. but I would still like to know if it matters what rod goes where.

i have seen that before its ok. if you are still unsure get them balacned 8)

those numbers are not for the position, they are for the big end diameter of the rod... When in doubt plastiguage it, if its within spec use it. You might have to juggle bearings to get them all to fit with the right clearances

I see, well, since I have no idea what goes where i'll just go within tolerances and leave it at that.
