removing head

hey guys, i'm takin off the head off my b18a1.

everything is out, head bolts are out (broke two 14mm 1/2drive crasftsman sockets on them) is the intake manifold bolted to the block anywhere? it doesn't want to come off, i can lift it off the block a little tiny bit, but its still caught on something... i still don't see why it isn't easier to unbolt the intake manifold from the head, rather than bring out the intake and head at the same time...

it's not bolted to the block anywhere, at least not on mine ;) i'm not trying to insult your intelligence or any thing, but did you disconnect all of your sensors, vaccuum lines etc.? :-[

Re:removing head

rofl, no i havent' disconnected ALL of them yet, but the ------- manifold is bolted to the block. and its way in the way. you have to be a jap to get your hands back there.

if only the vacuum lines were still on don't you think i could move it a little more up and down than 5mm.

Re:removing head

so all head bolts are out. all sensors/wires/lines removed from in. manifold. did u remove the actual intake tube? it has a support bracket bolted to the frame (some do).

maybe the intake manni has a support bracket on the block, get it from underneath?

yeah there was some bullshit bracket way in the back, i got the entire head and intake off. everything looks perfect, head, valves, cyclinder walls, pistons look good but they have some doinks in them but i guess that is normal.

but there was a peice of metal in the #4 cyclinder as i had expected. it puts some doinks in the piston, really small doinks... the peice is about as big as a .177 caliber bb

maybe a little smaller. it doesn't look like it get into the rings or even scrated the cyclinder walls. but the car sure ran shitty when it bounced around.

could you define "doink" ;)

Re:removing head

i wouldnt be surprised if it messed up the head or valves as well

Re:removing head

the pistons are alright, the valves need regrind. thats about it.

by doinks i mean, little craters about 1/2 the size of a .177 caliber bb, which is the normal sized bb. like if you took a peice of clay and pushed a bb into it and covered about 1/4the of the bb, thats a doink :)
