Qustion on axel install
So I am about 95% done on my engine swap but have a problem with geting my axels intstalled. I have swaped out an axel before when a CV boot ripped and it took forever because of this...
http://defaultcrush.com/tcpics/swap/fork.jpg Is there a easy way to get the axel thought the fork? I have tried smoothing out the fork with my die grinder but do nt want to take too much off. http://defaultcrush.com/tcpics/swap/axelfork.jpg any sujestions? also when i got the new axel it was all extended in the boot and I can tell its not in right, any ideas on fixing this? I tried having someone hold it and pull it apart to twist it but that doesnt work well.. Is my only option to break the metal band and pull it apart and thus make it easy to install too? Here is my old axel next to the new one that is all extended. http://defaultcrush.com/tcpics/swap/axelcompare.jpg |

Re:Qustion on axel install
you can try gettning the fork bolt out too and installing it that way, but by the time you ---- up that bolt and realize it aint coming out you could have the car back together

Re:Qustion on axel install
Yeah that bolt isnt going anywhere, I hit i with my big 1/2" gun and it didnt budge.
I will pull the boot. I just didnt want to mess with the factory clamp. |
Re:Qustion on axel install
I always pull the bolt but I use my snapon 650ftlbs impact wrench and airhammer to remove them when there rusty. :-\ Good luck

Re:Qustion on axel install
Ive never had a bolt I could remove with my impact that I couldnt do with a nice length breaker bar
|
Re:Qustion on axel install
we broke my friend's snap-on breaker bar twice in one day trying to get an axle nut off.
the longest one on the truck, and then a three foot pipe as well. |
Re:Qustion on axel install
So you can't get that bolt out? ??? I wouldn't suggest notching that fork. :-\ Put your purse down and break that ------- bolt loose. A big hammer, a wrench, a breaker bar, some penetrating lube, BAM! nothing should get in your way with those tools.
