Quick question before i buy an alternator?
its easy , my girl integra died the other day . i tried jumping it today at her work. it starts right up. i take the jumpers off and it goes dead right away. Battery or alternator. my gut says alternator. am i right

you take the alternator out
you take it apart you remove the old worn out brushes you install new brushes you put it back together you put the alternator back in you jump the car and watch it work :6 |

voltage reg. may be inop also. that must not be overlooked. and if you hooked your batt cables on backwords you may have fried a diode.

alternators are gay ... fuking expencive too
sorry for stealing ur thread but ... can you do anything to an alternator if the pully is seazed ? change the bearings? |

My guess is the regulator's trash in the alternator. I had the same thing happen to my car. Got a new battery because I thought it was that at first (the car still had the original Honda battery, dated and everything). Then took the car to Autozone to get them to test the alt and sure enough the diodes were shot so the alt was charging and discharging at the same time.

or if you have a batt. tester you can hook up the amp clamp to your batteries and load them down to 12v. than the amperage output should be near that of what your alternator is rated at.
