quick question about assembling motor with copper headgasket

i have a copper cometic headgasket, and the little slip that came with it said to apply a thin layer of gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. the head is already assembled, and we didnt bother to read that slip first. so im wondering if you guys have assembled your motors with or without the sealer, while using copper head gaskets.

if its really critical i wlil obviously remove the head again and throw the sealer back on, but both surfaces are freshly machined, so i am thinking i should be ok...

thought?

To be safe you should probably go back through and put some sealer on it :-\

might leak a little oil or coolant or both or might seal fine, feeling lucky today?

meh. ill just take it off so i can seal it up, and then i guess it will give me an oportunity to hose the block down with some flat black paint! :)

WORD. Besides, you should be able to reuse that copper head gasket, so long as its used on the same engine and not blown/damaged :y How much did that run you anyway? I didnt know they made A20 headgaskets... :6

So why is he tearing it apart? Because he didnt use copper spray?

If both head and block and flat and its a new gasket, why would he have to tear it apart?

you need to spray a copper gasket for it to seal well. my friends dad even heats hsi copper gaskets up with a blowtorch before he installs the,. no ------- clue why he does that though.. i think its just him being paranoid.

you dont HAVE to though, like theres no reason for him to pull his head and do it, its precaution for people who didnt mill or dont know or whatever, not worth pulling a head for it if he put the money into decking his ----

Using sealer on it is just a precaution. If the head and block are flat and machined you don't have too. It's basically for the lazy/cheap people that don't want to take the time to get there crap machined.
