Quick question??
I just had a quick question about a ticking noise in my engine. It just started happening and its a loud ticking that happens around 3 or 4000rpms. I took my valve cover off and took a look at my lifters and rollers and they seemed fine. Anyone have any other ideas on what else could be making that noise?? Thanks

I had that at one time, and it was an exhaust leak! 
Yeah I thought it was a rod, but the noise progressivly got worse and louder....Do you have an engine check light on? Check our gaskets all around in you exhaust,mine was the gastket between my header and cat....cuz the cat got plugged (hence the reason i wanna get rid of it)

no its not an exuast leak because the tick is comming from right under the valve cover, its not low enough to be a leak. im gonna try flushing out the engine and get and change my oil, maybe my lifters arn't gettin enough oil. thanks anyway

Dude, I had the exact some thing, it sounds lie a ticking right under the valve cover, I'm tellin ya, just check yer gaskets. Are you noticing any power loss? Just check your gaskets and exhaust to be certain. I was gonna pay big bucks cuz i thought i threw a rod, but then i went under neath and felt exhuast comin out, and that was the noise. Exhaust leaks are tricky and sound like everyting BUT a leak....but its up to you, cant make ya do it.

You could be right because i put my exhuast system on my self and there might be a leak. I'll have to check that out tommorow. i didn't think that you'd hear a tick in the valve cover if you had an exhaust leak, but i do feel a huge loss of power i thought my turbo might of been goin. Anyway what kind of car did you have the problem on? I have a GSX.

All engines kinda "tick" but from what youre tellin me, its like a loud and obvious tick. Ifs its a lifter or rod, it would throw an engine check light, it would be a misfire code more than likley, because that would result in a dead cylinder. Check the exhuast then lemme know.
