questions about my v8 rx7 swap

ok guys got a question.
i am doing a sbc swap on my rx7, i'm using an oldschool motor with carb.
i'm in the process of pulling everything i don't need out of the rx7.
the questions are

1. will the fuel pump work without the ecu?
2. will abs work without the ecu? (i know what i have to do to remove abs. and i don't care if i have to remove it)
3. can i use the wire harness already in the car for the sbc or should i just yank the stock wires and go with a painless wire harness?

i've gotten the summit wire harness for universal gm cars and rewired my wife's old 70 c10 pickup. so i was thinking about just getting the same harness and putting it in the rx7.

1. Just straight wire it to the battery, using a relay as your switch. The stock pump will output too much pressure for a carb. Probably best to loop the feed and return and then tee in a carb regulator. You want 7-9psi fuel pressure at the carb (depending on which carb you have).
2. If the abs gets any kind of speed signal or otherwise from the ecu, then no it will not work.
3. rx7 wiring harness are a mess to begin with, plus its like 18 years old now. If you can spring the extra cash, the painless harness are nice and clean.

yeah i know about the pressure for the carb
i'm not sure about the abs, i think i might just remove it all.
i don't really have extra money to spend, but i'd rather do it right then half assed.

On the Series 5 cars, both the fuel pump, and abs are controlled by the ECU. You COULD rewire the abs to accept a S4 ABS computer, but ---- that. Just ditch it.

As far as the fuel pump goes, I;m guessing you know you will need a different pump for the carb. You dont need to totally rewire it thow. The fuel pump relay is under the dash, on the right side of the steering colom. Just de-pin the signal wire (dont remember if its pos. or neg, activated) and put a switch on it, or wire it to the ignition, and add an inertia switch.

I don't really see what of the stock ECU (passenger side)harness you could use besides the wiper sub-harness. On the harness on the passenger side, you have the body harness intertwined with the ignition harness and acc.(p/s, a/c) harness. Your best bet is unwraping it, get rid of what you dont need, and rewrap nice and clean.

If you need the FSM, I have the links to it.

Re: questions about my v8 rx7 swap

a working link to the fsm would be great. everytime i find one it doesn't work.
and i don't need a different fuel pump i just need a regulator on the fuel line
i got that info from v8rx7forum.com
i will probably just rewire the fuel pump to the ignition and get rid of the abs.
i've never had a car with abs so why should i start now.

I retract my statment about the ABS. I cant remember for sure if series 5 ABS in intergrated into the ecu....

YOu were right about the FSM links. The one I was going to post is dead, and so are all the ones setup in single pdf file format. But on rotor wiki, you can find the fsm devided into seperate pdf's per chapter.

Re: questions about my v8 rx7 swap

thanks
i think that the abs is connected to the ecu somehow, but can't get a forsure answer.
either way i don't give a ---- about abs. the fuel pump was the main issue.

there isnt any wiring on a smallblock. hei adds what, 5-6 wires? non-hei will leave you with a coil, a dizzy, plug wires. that's a total of 11 wires. +12 into coil, dizzy out to coil-, and the other 9 for coil to dizzy, and dizzy to plugs.

it cant get more simple

Re: questions about my v8 rx7 swap

there is wiring on a small block. it's called the starter, alternator and other ---- like that.
did you read the question? i'm not asking about wiring the motor, i'm asking about the ---- inside the car that needs to work to make the motor work. like the fuel pump.

the only question about the sbc wires was can i reuse the stock wires without the ecu or will i need to rewire the engine.

it can't get anymore c0mpl3x for you can it
