Question regarding ARP bolts...
 

My friend posed this question to me the other day regarding the ARP main studs I ordered for the bottom of my b18a1 block. What would happen if you torqued the ARP studs to factory specs instead of ARP's specs? Honestly I don't have an answer for him on this one. ??? I'm getting ready to take my main caps and the ARP's to the machinist to have him do an align hone because of the ARP's extra torque spec, and he asked me about it. What would happen? Bolts wouldn't stretch out to what they're supposed to and would back the nuts off?

Well the factory studs and arp studs are made from differant materials and would stretch differantly. The factory specs are for factory studs. With the arp studs the factory specs don't meen anything anymore. Follow the arp advice.

And like you said if you under torqued an arp nut it could back off. Just go with the specs arp gives you. This is all my personal feelings on it. I could be wrong.

I already planned on going with ARP's ratings. Obviously they set them at what they are for a reason. More or less it's to try and answer his question.
