Question about cx trans

My friend has a 97 civic ex coupe he just picked up, and the trans is whining pretty good. I told him I would give him my old 95 cx trans that's in great shape, but he's wondering how far off the gear ratios will be if he slaps it in. Anyone (Bone hint hint ;) ) know what the gearing ratios and differences are between these 2 trannys?

Re: Question about cx trans

Re: Question about cx trans

dont put that tranny on that motor... it really throws it out of the powerband.

It's a great trans if your boosted for D series. Allows you to brake boost killa lot when on the move against another car before you take off.

Re: Question about cx trans

Why? Because the long transmission gears create more load? You can do the same with your brakes and those can be released, unlike a long trans.

Re: Question about cx trans

Drive it till it breaks and then just throw the bitch in.....

Re: Question about cx trans

Chris was closest, but still not right.........

92-92 CX/VX tranny = 96-00 HX tranny except for second gear minor differnece

1.900 vs 1.909 gear, you'll never feel it.

Now, 5g tranny on a 6g car, how many bolts don't line up?

Re: Question about cx trans

all the bolts will line up, at least from my experience they do, 99 y7 block with EG tranny, worked fine.

Bone1 03-26-2007 04:17 PM

Re: Question about cx trans

then you didn't try to put all the bolts in did you?

Re: Question about cx trans

well as far as the under engine support bracket, then no, that didn't fit, but all the important bolts were fine and then tranny didn't fall off so that's a plus, heh.

Re: Question about cx trans

We found out the final drive ratio that day...he pretty much said forget it, no cx trans for him. Damn...I can't even give that thing away lol. From what we can hear of the original trans, it kinda sounds like the bearings on the diff are starting to whine. He got a quote from a tranny shop where a friend of ours works at...$800+parts...that ------ trans better be made of gold and sucking my dick in 5th gear for that money. ::) For now I told him to run it until it gets really loud or breaks...then buy another used trans.

the case at a recycyler is worth more than the street value of those things
